An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Scientist with significant management experience and experience of working in a Laboratory to join the Microbiology Department as Department Manager on a permanent basis. Forth Valley Royal Hospital is a modern and well-equipped hospital and was purpose-built to provide the very highest standard of accommodation and facilities for patients, visitors and staff. Mature woodland, ponds, landscaped courtyards and gardens are on site for both staff and visitors to enjoy. Applicants must have a Master’s level (MSc) qualification and / or Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science as well as a proven track record in laboratory management. Evidence of active participation in continuing professional development is also required. The laboratory provides Microbiology support to the acute hospital and to general practices and community hospitals in the surrounding area. We handle around 330,000 investigations per year, covering a wide range of analyses provided by the Virtuo Blood Culture system, Vitek 2 –XL and Vitek –MS Maldi-TOF technology, IQ Sprint urinalysis and Vidas immunoassay, with Abbott Serology and Alinity Molecular solutions on site. The laboratory is accredited to UKAS ISO 15189 (2022) Standards. The post does not require out of hours working but this may be necessary on occasion, due to demands of the service.
