POSITION SUMMARY The purpose of the Technical Manager role is to ensure that all products produced at Tate & Lyle Sugars (TLS) London site meet the highest standards of food safety and quality. The Technical Manager will ensure that our product and site complies with all legislative requirements using experience gained in the food industry to define and implement best practice. This role has strong links to all functional areas within TLS and the jobholder is expected to work closely with personnel from a wide range of disciplines within TLS and the ASR Group POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES - Strong leadership and day to day management of a medium-size team including Quality Assurance, Quality Systems and Laboratory. - Ability to develop the Quality function and its team members to become a high functioning autonomous team. - Continuous development of the site Quality Culture which is a primary focus for ASR / TLS. - Maintain and develop the site Quality Management Systems and Food Safety Plan to meet all ASR / TLS, customer and regulatory policies or requirements. - Member of the site Incident Management Team providing leadership for food safety and quality matters. - Work with the Operations team and supporting functions to ensure good manufacturing practices are in place at all times delivering the highest standard for BRC and other customer and regulatory audits. - Deliver continuous improvement in food safety and quality standards through existing and new technology. - Manage quality assurance relationships with our customers and regulatory authorities to ensure 100% compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements. - Responsible as site lead for audits conducted by BRC, customers, certification schemes (Kosher / Halal / Organic / Animal Feed) and regulatory authorities. - Implement quality systems and corrective action plans that deliver ASR corporate quality KPIs and that deliver continuous improvement in reducing customer and consumer complaints. Drive a culture of right first time that seeks to minimise product waste and reduce sustainability and environmental impacts. - Responsible for setting and maintaining the budget and cost centre for the site quality team. - Responsible for the laboratory team who conduct analytical testing, providing reports to our business and customers for raw sugar supply, in-process samples and finished products. - Functional lead supporting New Product Development and Project Engineering activities to aid the successful launch of new products and processes. - Customer point of contact for product food safety and quality related matters and KPI scorecard meetings. - Cross site collaboration with other site Quality leads through the European Quality Team Meetings. WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS - Currently working as Technical Manager within the food and drink industry. - Experience in supplying retailer own-label products. - Experience of a best in class quality environment, knowing what excellent quality looks and feels like. - Lead auditor qualification - Level 3-4 HACCP ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES) - Good interpersonal skills, trust worthy and authoritative nature. An able decision maker who is comfortable challenging the norm. - Proven record of being able to understand and positively change a quality culture throughout an organisation. - Effective engagement and leadership of large teams, developing talent and managing performance. - Excellent presentation and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders. A strong ability to represent business interests to 3rd parties. - Visionary change agent; be able to quickly understand the current state, plan a visionary future state and deliver change through engagement at all levels. - Good problem solving skills and knowledge of CAPA processes. - The ability to work in a controlled way under-pressure with differing stakeholder priorities. - Proven track record in delivering and maintaining Quality Systems and Food Safety Plans. - Strong knowledge of BRC requirement and the ability to maintain A/ AA standards. - Demonstrated ability in achieving the highest possible quality and hygiene standards by encouraging the involvement of all employees. - An ability to develop and adapt strategies to satisfy the needs of the business with respect to Quality. - Strong functional leadership during incident management situations relating to a product food safety or quality issue. Ability to remain calm and focused when dealing with major issues. - Ability to develop and manage departmental budget and cost control. - Ability to design and lead quality related capital projects.
