An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time band 7 chief cardiac physiologist specialising in cardiac rhythm management/invasive physiology to join our dynamic and hardworking team of cardiac physiologists and clinical scientists here at the Ipswich Hospital.
Our cardiac rhythm management/invasive physiology team are based at the Ipswich Hospital and cover a range of diagnostic tests and device therapeutics for both outpatients and inpatients. Our cardiac rhythm management service provides a comprehensive range of tests including pacemaker, ILR and CRT-P follow-up clinics, remote monitoring clinics, and pacemaker and ILR implants. We are in the early stages of starting and developing a CRT-P and conduction system pacing implant service which will mean patients can be treated locally rather than having to travel to other centres in the area.
Our invasive physiology service is expanding and offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for both outpatients and inpatients. This includes diagnostic angiography and a wide range of PCI procedures which includes an on-call service. We are currently in the early stages of expanding our PCI services with future plans of implementing a primary PCI service to improve access to life saving intervention to our local patient population.
Main duties of the job
The key duties of the role are outlined below.
1. To independently and competently perform a range of clinical procedures safely and appropriately in accordance with local and national policy, procedure and guidance.
2. To interpret clinical data, produce factual reports and deliver results to other medical professionals.
3. To contribute to the department training and education programmed and implement changes to practice/service provision in liaison with the principal/deputy principal cardiac physiologists.
4. To work within trust and external professional standards of proficiency and be able to practice safely and effectively whilst maintaining legal and ethical boundaries.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The department operates Monday to Friday with the potential to undertake weekend overtime work where available. The majority of our full-time staff complete their hours over 4 days during the week working between the hours of 8am and 6pm. We can discuss the working pattern of the successful candidate prior to starting with us. For this post, there is the expectation that the successful candidate would join or on-call service for PCI. There would also be the expectation to be a part of future on-call rotas as our services expand.
This is an exciting time to join the department as we are currently having our cardiac catheter labs refurbished in order to improve the care we provide for our patients. We are also looking to start a clinical scientist/physiologist-led ILR implant and explant service. This will initially commence with one of our clinical scientists however there could be the option to expand this service as it develops. We work alongside a great team of consultant cardiologists and cardiac nurse specialists who are approachable and supportive.
Ideally we would look to recruit individuals who hold BHRS or IBHRE accreditation in cardiac implantable devices. However, for the right candidate who does not currently hold BHRS or IBHRE accreditation, we would be willing to consider a band 6 progression post where we would support you through your accreditation process. Although full-time work would be preferable, we can also consider part-time hours for the right candidate.
