Locum Consultant Psychiatrist - South Camden R&R Team

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic team, working with some of the most vulnerable patients with severe mental illness in Camden.
This post is a 1-year fixed term 0.6 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist working within the South Camden Core Community Mental Health Team as work progresses with the transformation of community mental health services in line with the NHS Long Term plan.
The post is being offered as a 1-year fixed term post whilst the JD for the Substantive post is being reviewed by the Royal College of Psychiatrist for approval. It is envisaged that this post will be advertised Substantively as soon as the JD is approved by RCPsych.
The post-holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team which includes both statutory and voluntary sector roles and provides holistic care to patients in a primary care setting aligned to the South and Central Primary Care Networks in Camden.

Main duties of the job
This is a substantive position for 6 Programmed Activities: 4.5 Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities.
The direct clinical care sessions will include: assessing new referrals to the team; reviewing patients and advising on their care; contributing to risk assessment and management; helping to manage crises; conducting medication reviews; participating in CPA reviews; and providing Consultant input into the team meetings.
The South Camden R&R Team is an innovative service with a strong focus on continuing service development, Quality Improvement, and conducting service evaluation and research. The post holder will be expected to support and contribute to these activities. The service is part of a wider programme in the trust aimed at reducing the health inequalities for people with severe mental illnesses.
Job responsibilities
* To provide consultant input and clinical leadership to maintain clinical standards at South Camden R&R Team.
* To assess and manage patients with SMI such as complex psychotic and bipolar illnesses ensuring improved outcomes incl. outcomes for physical health.
* To assist with diagnosis, formulation, medication reviews, Dialog+ care planning, management plans, risk assessments, safety plans (Formerly crisis plans), and self-help plans as required for these patients referred to the team.
* To provide advice and support to Kentish Town PCN GPs, and other practice staff, regarding the assessment and management of the mental health difficulties of patients registered with their practices.
* To maintain effective communication with GPs, primary care staff, patients and their carers.
* To work flexibly within timetabled working hours, so that urgent clinical matters can be prioritised.
* To carry out Mental Health Act and domiciliary assessments as required.
* To play a key role in implementing improved linkage between primary and secondary care services.
* To liaise and work closely with local voluntary services as part of the new model of core community teams.
* To provide clinical input, where necessary, to multi-disciplinary case conferencing around difficult patients being managed solely in primary care.
* To engage with local service user participation models.
* To participate in management activities and governance processes related to the Core Teams, including audits and quality improvement projects.
* To play an integral role in the performance of the team, the further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities of the service line.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications/Registration
* Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice. Must be on the specialist register or within 6 months of gaining a Certificate of Completion of Training.
* Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility) - qualifies to act as a Responsible Clinician.
* Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing.
* Shared Services training up to date to be an approved trainer/clinical supervisor.
* Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry.
* Other relevant post-graduate qualification (incl. those gained outside UK).
* Trained as an Educational Supervisor for doctors in training.
* Training as a Consultant mentor.
Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge and observance of the requirements and duties of a doctor laid down by the GMC in Good Medical Practice.
* Clinical knowledge of the full range mental disorders.
* Experience in the assessment of complex clinical cases involving severe and enduring mental illness and significant risk histories and the ability to assertively engage and manage such cases.
* Expertise in a comprehensive range of evidence based treatment and case management options including pharmacotherapy.
* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding practices.
* Experience in work place based assessments of doctors in training.
* Knowledge of clinical commissioning and external organisations that interface with an NHS Trust.
* Experience in organising and chairing meetings.
* Good understanding of Trust governance structures, especially clinical governance.
* An understanding of the role of research within the wider service.
* Willingness to participate in research as appropriate and within the context of the duties of the post.
* Experience in teaching small and large groups.
* Experience in developing policies and protocols.
* Experience of service development.

* Experience in undertaking clinical audit, investigating serious incidents and handling complaints.

* A special interest or willingness to develop one in an area which helps to meet the needs of the Trust.
* Experience in successfully delivering research projects.
