NMO Team Manager Numerical Modelling and Optimisation Team Manager Location : Middlesbrough or Cambridge Contract : Permanent Hours : Full time Job Profile : Team Manager Salary/annum : Min £42,159 - Max £66,250 Closing Date : 31 March 2025 Description of role: The Numerical Modelling and Optimisation Section (NMO), primarily has staff and facilities at our headquarters in Cambridge and our technology centre in Middlesbrough, UK. The team operate a hybrid mode of working. The Section performs internationally recognised modelling, simulation and optimisation work in additive manufacturing, welding/joining, materials performance and structural integrity. Various software and programming tools are employed, such as Abaqus, COMSOL, Python and MATLAB. We support a diverse range of industrial clients with the challenges they face, and we complement the work of many of TWIs processing and integrity/testing Sections. The Section has a global client base spanning a broad range of industrial sectors, including aerospace, power generation, oil, gas and hydrogen, transport and defence. The successful candidate will enjoy responsibility for these areas and rapidly gain further experience in them. You will contribute to the core skills of a well-established exciting and innovative team of engineers who have a strong collegiate culture. NMO delivers projects to an international customer base, often with demanding requirements. TWI is seeking to profitably grow its business not only in numerical modelling but also in data management, machine learning and application development and provision, and therefore knowledge of these areas is essential. At Team Manager level, the role is expected to be focused on both delivery (sales & projects) as well as line management. This will entail strong interaction with existing and potential customers as well as NMO team members and TWI staff in general. Key accountabilities Developing a growing business with a growth culture: customer relationships, technical capability and products, research excellence, team leadership and management, compliance with policy, contribution to budget. Recruit, develop, retain and progress a team to support your business units ambitions, meet TWI requirements and provide stimulating career paths for your staff. Together with NMO team members, evolve the strategy and roadmap of the Section, to be consistent with the growth culture, research excellence and TWI overall strategy. Proactively develop a pipeline of new business to budget for your team, engaging your team with potential customers, colleagues in other business units and the business development function. Utilise technical knowledge to lead and contribute to projects where necessary or appropriate; provide technical leadership to the staff, enabling problem solving. Promote and support delivery of work to the high satisfaction of clients. Maintain safe, secure, on-time, to cost and within scope the delivery of existing and new products; quality of results and reports is paramount.
