Solar Sister is an organization dedicated to empowering women and addressing energy poverty in last-mile communities by recruiting, training, and supporting women to become entrepreneurs in the clean energy sector. When empowered female entrepreneurs bring affordable, clean energy products to their communities, livelihoods are improved thanks to regular access to energy, and the effects of climate change are mitigated while CO2 emissions are reduced. Women gain footing on which to build a more equitable future for themselves and their families. Since its inception, Solar Sister has supported more than 11,000 women across Africa who have reached over 5 million people with life-changing renewable energy products.
Position Overview
The person in this position will learn about managing an organization by working directly with the CEO by assisting the CEO on several large projects including preparations for the May in-person board meeting, the development of the 5-year Strategic Plan, and the rollout of performance reviews among others.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Support the development of the 5-Year Strategic Plan and assist the CEO in developing presentation materials for the plan.
2. Assist in event planning, logistical support, and execution for the 15 May board meeting: preparing materials, building an agenda, arranging venues, and providing remote technical assistance.
3. Implement the logistics of organization-wide updates, especially the implementation of performance review plans: identifying best software/tools, preparing folders for adequate organization of documents, etc.
Qualifications:
1. Ability to work independently on self-led projects with attention to detail and accuracy.
2. Ability to present complex information, orally or in writing, concisely.
3. Experience with organizing logistics and coordinating details with multiple departments and stakeholders.
4. Familiarity with the field of climate change, women’s economic empowerment, or energy access.
5. Proficiency in MS Office/Google Workspace, especially Forms & Slides required, experience with Canva also preferred.
6. Current student in a higher education institution or recent graduate.
