An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to apply for a band 7 Clinical Nurse Manager position at Gladstone 1 Ward CMH, St Marks Hospital, London Northwest University Healthcare Trust. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to lead and continue to develop the excellent standards of nursing care provided on this ward as part of an innovative, multi-professional team. You need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to actively support the Modern Matron in delivering a high-quality service. You must have considerable experience to include Gastroenterology Nursing and Colorectal surgery. You will be confident and competent to lead a team and possess a comprehensive portfolio of personal development. Demonstrable evidence of clinical leadership and a strong track record in service improvement and ensuring the highest standards in clinical services to benefit patients and their families and friends.
Main duties of the job
1. Act as an advocate for the patient through effective support and information enabling them to make choices and decisions concerning treatment and their care.
2. Accept responsibility, be aware and able to locate all policies relating to good working practice within the clinical area and able to adhere to both by self and colleagues, and to challenge staff about their location.
3. Ensure carer/family and visitors are aware of policies, standards/guidelines relevant to the patient care or the clinical area.
4. Ensure effective communication with people where there is a degree of confusion or need for clarity e.g. complainants, misunderstanding with staff and patients.
5. Meet face to face with complainants and communicate in a manner to enable constructive outcomes to be achieved.
6. Ensure any barriers to understanding are overcome. Plan to resolve complaints at local level and respond to written complaints enabling a constructive outcome within the Trust Complaints Policy.
7. Ensure effective communication within the team, conduct and attend meetings, and ensure staff attend regular team meetings. This may include having to share sensitive and contentious information with staff and positively overcoming a hostile response.
8. Ensure good communication verbally and via formal documentation and electronic sources with all members of the nursing, multidisciplinary team, patients, family, and any other service users.

Job responsibilities
1. Act as clinical leader to ensure the assessment of individual patient care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care working in partnership with patients, families, and other health care professionals.
2. Ensure all staff are trained and competent in the delivery of clinical workload and clinical care.
3. Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations, considering patients' individual, often complex situations, before using judgement skills to put in place the preferred options to facilitate safe recovery.
4. Be responsible for Infection, Prevention and Control, implement and audit compliance against High Impact Interventions, Care Bundles and hand hygiene, challenging poor practice. Monitor standards of cleanliness, and the patient environment within the clinical area.
5. Adhere to the Trust's Infection, Prevention and Control Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of all healthcare-associated infections. Ensure these are adhered to by all.
