Lead Nurse for West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre (WMRC). The post holder will be responsible for maintaining the safe high-quality care of patients visiting the WMRC Outpatients Department. This includes care rounding, meeting basic care needs, obtaining handover for patients who attend on a stretcher, basic wound care, and completing required risk assessments. The post holder will also be responsible for medicines management, stock and equipment management, and line management of staff.
Clinical Responsibilities
1. Manage and lead the outpatient department and nursing team ensuring that patients receive clinically appropriate interventions when required.
2. Ensure that accurate and timely nursing records are maintained, monitoring standards.
3. Responsible for ordering, storing, checking, and administering drugs.
4. Lead nurse for medicines management at West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre.
5. Infection, Prevention, and Control Link Nurse for the centre.
6. Ensure COSHH information is up to date and accessible for all staff.
7. Manage risks and incidents, identifying learning and overseeing appropriate actions.
8. Undertake a link role in Tissue Viability, ensuring any wounds are assessed and dressed appropriately.
9. Act appropriately and timely with safeguarding concerns.
Management and Leadership Responsibilities
1. Develop a culture that ensures that the Trust value of ‘Great Place to Work’ is achieved for all staff.
2. Provide leadership, motivating the department team to ensure excellent nursing care.
3. Line manage outpatient dept – allocates duties to nursing and support staff, manages the staff roster, recruitment and retention of staff, ensuring all staff receive appraisals.
4. Undertake the completion of the department staffing rota.
The WMRC Outpatient Nursing Team consists of nurses and healthcare assistants, whose role is to support patients whilst they are in the centre. They work closely with members of the MDT, including Consultants, Therapists, Rehabilitation Engineers, Orthotists, and Prosthetists.
Accountability
Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct for nurses and to be accountable for own clinical practice and professional actions at all times. Promote reflective practice for all staff. Will accommodate the integration of the clinical supervision process to all nursing staff.
Training and Development
Ensure robust monitoring and replenishment of Resuscitation equipment and location. Monitor outpatient environment ensuring matters raised with Estates and act accordingly. Manage risks and incidents, identifying learning and overseeing appropriate actions.
