Summary:
Blue Falls Manufacturing (“BFM”) is currently seeking a full-time Assistant Controller to join its burgeoning Finance team primarily situated out of its West Edmonton Retail Store location at 21220 – 100 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5T 5X8. This position requires demonstrated, senior level accounting acumen and the ability to quickly grasp how BFM’s operation is run. As a loyal warden of the company’s fiscal flow, the right person for the role will possess a wide breadth of knowledge across the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions. This role reports to the Controller and will be accountable for assisting in the supervision and leadership of the accounting group and the monitoring of compliance with internal financial controls and company policies. The successful candidate will be sharp, assertive, and trustworthy with a fun side to fit into the company’s current team dynamic.
Please note that the company’s corporate headquarters are located in Thorsby Alberta (4549 – 52 Street, T0C 2P0); as such, the Assistant Controller is required to possess reliable personal transportation so that they can travel to this location at least once per week.
Work/life balance is part of BFM’s philosophy – the Finance/Accounting team works Monday thru Friday, typically 8:00AM to 4:30PM (hours may be subject to minor fluctuation based on operational requirements).

Duties:
* Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports
* Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger entries and reconciliations.
* Assist in the supervisory function of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
* Manage the monthly close process including journal entries and account reconciliations
* Monitor compliance with internal controls and company policies
* Maintain and update accounting systems and software (Microsoft Business Central)
* Prepare monthly consolidated management financials across all entities
* Assist with annual budget and Quarterly forecasts
* Prepare detailed profitability analysis
* Assist with preparing year-end backup files
Skills/Abilities:
* Deadline-driven; ability to work within defined and/or urgent timelines
* Cross-functional understanding of accounting and inventory systems management
* Must maintain a high degree of confidentiality; utilize discretion and diplomacy
* Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, but also collaboratively as part of a team
* Well-honed interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication skills
* Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
* Well-organized and meticulous with the ability to perform with a high level of accuracy
* Able to sit or stand for sustained durations
* Proficient in commonly utilized accounting and ERP software i.e. Microsoft Navision, MS Business Central 18
* Experience with Power BI
* Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
Experience:
* Minimum 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience
* Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and IFRS principles
* Experience with financial reporting and analysis with particular emphasis in the Financial Service/Lending Reporting industry considered an asset
Education/Training/Certification:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
* CPA designation or equivalent strongly preferred
Compensation:
* £80K – £105K per annum (commensurate with skills and qualifications)
