Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, we work closely with our wholly owned subsidiary Micon International with offices in Toronto, Truro (UK), and Norwich (UK). While this role is based in the UK, it will support and work under the direction of the Toronto engineering team. The intention is to build and develop engineering capability in the UK that will in the short term support the Canadian operations but in the medium term establish a fully functioning engineering office in the UK.
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for working with the discipline engineers but have a strong focus on the mechanical packages.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager but working on a specific job for the Project Manager, this is an engineering role with a high degree of project management. The role requires a high degree of relevant engineering judgment in order to affect the management functions of this position. The work will require site time in addition to time spent in the UK and/or Toronto office. Your technical expertise and problem-solving skills will contribute to the successful completion of projects within budget and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Carries clear responsibility and accountability for delivery of the objectives for a project taking into consideration the full project lifecycle including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project controls.
2. Disciplined mechanical engineer with experience in minerals process project execution. The role requires a good understanding of site construction activities and commissioning along with the ability to overcome unexpected difficulties.
3. Coordinates, monitors, and controls the project in line with the detailed scope, cost, and schedule baselines and manages project changes in terms of the baseline.
4. Exercises budgetary control to ensure costs are maintained. Plans and obtains additional authorization where necessary to manage changes.
5. Ensures project governance is maintained, specifically compliance to project delegations of authority, procedures, and policies.
6. Considers the resourcing requirements for projects and partakes in securing these resources as well as defining the projects resourcing requirements.
7. Ensures measurement of progress on all contracts for reporting and progress claim purposes.
8. Ensures forecast of cost and schedule is updated and project forecasted end date on a monthly basis.
9. Communicates regularly with the team to ensure that goals and priorities are clearly understood so that they are met.
10. Works closely with and mentors other team members, especially junior members.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
1. Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
2. 5 - 15 years of experience in engineering, plant design, construction, and commissioning.
3. Having a professional engineering status in your jurisdiction would be considered an asset.
4. Proven experience working as a Mechanical Engineer in a similar role.
5. PMP/Prince2 registration is an asset.
6. Experience in engineering, procurement, and construction and other project-related activities, their interfaces, and interdependencies.
7. Proven background of resourcefulness under pressure.
8. Must have strong oral and written English communication skills.
9. Ability to communicate in other languages is a strong asset.
