Reporting to the CEO, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the company's finance function as well as managing two direct reports. The incumbent will develop a strong control environment for the accurate and timely production of management information for the board, whilst facilitating data-led decision-making across all levels of the business. This role is based at our head office in Crawley with the opportunity for hybrid working and is open to both fixed-term and permanent placement.
Job Description
Principal Accountabilities
1. Prepare and submit financial statements (IFRS) and partner with external consultant to prepare and submit high-value R&D tax claim.
2. Prepare monthly management accounts/board reporting.
3. Provide day-to-day support to operation and commercial teams.
4. Oversee two direct reports and take charge of their development.
5. Drive finance process and control enhancements.
6. Cashflow management.
7. Develop publication of a KPI dashboard.
8. Involvement in budgeting and forecasting activities.
9. Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis.
10. Ensure timely processing of payroll, supplier payments, and day-to-day accounting.
Person Specification
1. Comfortable as part of a small but growing team, building a first-class finance function.
2. Flexible, proactive hands-on approach.
3. Confident liaising with auditors and owning statutory compliance.
4. Experience to support the development of processes and systems which will enable the business to grow in a structured manner.
5. Confident in taking ownership of the role, working autonomously.
6. Commercial aptitude.
Qualifications
1. Qualified accountant.
2. Understanding of IFRS accounting and standards.
3. Agile and ambitious (wants to grow with a fast-moving start-up).
4. Exposure to a previous VC backed business would be an advantage.
5. Experience in project accounting and grant claims would be an advantage.
6. Strong organisational and analytical skills.
7. Detail-oriented.
