Job Title: Site Agent - Civil Engineering (400kV Substation)

About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Site Agent to oversee the successful delivery of a 400kV substation civil engineering project in Southampton. The role requires strong leadership, ensuring health & safety compliance, managing site teams, and maintaining quality and programme objectives in line with National Grid (NG) standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project & Site Management:
Oversee all civil engineering works on site, including earthworks, foundations, drainage, and structural elements.
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
2. Health, Safety & Compliance:
Implement and enforce National Grid TP137 procedures and ensure compliance with CDM regulations.
Ensure all site activities adhere to RAMS (Risk Assessment & Method Statements).
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks.
3. Team Leadership & Coordination:
Manage site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure efficient delivery of works.
Liaise with clients, National Grid representatives, designers, and stakeholders to resolve technical and logistical challenges.
Promote a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
4. Programme & Cost Control:
Ensure works are completed in line with project programme and budget constraints.
Monitor and report on project progress, productivity, and commercial aspects.
Work closely with the commercial team to manage change control, variations, and subcontractor payments.
5. Technical & Quality Assurance:
Ensure all works meet required design specifications and quality standards.
Maintain accurate records, site diaries, and as-built documentation.
Requirements:
1. Experience:
Proven track record as a Site Agent or similar role on major civil engineering and substation projects.
400kV / National Grid project experience is essential.
2. Qualifications:
HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
CSCS card (essential).
SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) qualification.
3. Technical Skills & Knowledge:
Strong understanding of National Grid TP137 procedures.
Experience managing reinforced concrete, drainage, and earthworks.
Familiarity with subcontractor management, cost control, and programme reporting.
4. Additional Requirements:
EUSR (BESC & Person) or NG Competent Person qualification (highly desirable).
Full UK driving license and willingness to travel as required.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
