We are seeking a qualified Teacher to fulfil the role of Assistant SENCO, who will also be trained as a p/t teacher of the deaf (ToD). In the position of ToD, you will work within the Hearing Loss Provision, supporting up to 5 pupils across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will provide specialist support for deaf students, helping them to achieve their full potential in an inclusive setting. The successful candidate will report to the SENCO and support children with a variety of learning difficulties. Within this role you will have dedicated time and be responsible for supporting / teaching deaf pupils in one-to-one work, in small groups and mainstream lessons whilst encouraging pupils to become independent learners. They will also ensure the personal, social and academic development of those with hearing loss and/or learning difficulties. The successful candidate must either hold a Teacher of the Deaf (QTOD) qualification or be willing to train for the qualification. Key Responsibilities for Assistant SENCO role: Quality First Teaching: • A key remit of this role, in association with the SENCO, is to ensure that all teachers adapt their lessons accordingly to ensure that students with SEN achieve their full potential. • Provide guidance and support to teaching staff in implementing inclusive teaching practices, fostering an environment where every student can succeed. • Helping with EHCPs and one page profile. Training and Development: • Provide training and support for teachers and support staff to enhance their understanding and ability to meet the needs of students with SEN. • Demonstrate personal drive to continually improve, staying informed about the latest research and best practices in the field of special education, embodying a commitment to academic excellence. • Stay up-to-date with current educational research for best practices in SEN, continually looking to develop and enhance our SEN provision. Key Responsibilities for Teacher of the Deaf role- • Provide direct teaching and support to deaf pupils and those with SEN, including signed support where required • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to enhance the learning experience of those children who are hearing impaired and have SEN. • Develop and implement individual education plans. • Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, adjusting interventions as needed. • Support the development of a positive and inclusive school environment. Qualifications: • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent is essential. • Qualified Teacher of the Deaf status (QTOD) recommended (Willing to train) • Ideally experience working with deaf pupils and knowledge of relevant communication methods. • Understanding of SEN legislation and best practices. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to collaborate effectively with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
