Job Description:
The successful candidate will report to the Group Company Secretary and work under the direction of the Group Health & Safety Manager. They will be expected to be mobile and largely field-based to service the whole business as required.
The base office will be Cardiff or Warrington; however, other locations will be considered for the right candidate.
The Health & Safety Officer will provide support, advice, and training to colleagues in all areas and at all levels of the business. The role includes conducting approximately 70 site audits per year, primarily in retail stores, but also in Distribution Centres and office space.
This position is the first line of contact with Environmental Health Officers (EHO’s), Fire Officers, and other government agencies in the Health & Safety field. Responsibilities also include carrying out post-incident/accident investigations and assisting with the review and creation of safe systems of work and risk assessments.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Previous experience in retail or distribution is preferable, though other candidates will be considered.
2. A minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience is preferred, or a candidate with retail or warehousing experience and the required Health and Safety qualifications.
3. A sound knowledge and understanding of current health & safety legal requirements.
4. Membership in IOSH and holding the NEBOSH diploma or equivalent.
Competencies:
1. Ability to communicate and negotiate with all levels of staff and management.
2. Self-motivated individual with good report writing skills.
3. Practical and commercial approach to applying Health and Safety legislation.
4. Comfortable and competent in training others in health and safety topics.
5. Able to deliver health and safety solutions in a commercial environment.
