Overview
The Senior Principal Consultant is a consulting leadership position that operates at a senior client and internal stakeholder level where strategic discussions take place. This role will lead a team and be responsible for growing existing client relationships and delivering the annual client revenue. In addition, they will be a trusted and senior member of the Client Service Team.
A key part of this role is to work with Gallagher's Communication Practice proposition leads to help identify and develop key growth areas and implement suitable offerings within those areas.
How you'll make an impact
Client Delivery:
* Own long-term client planning, growth and associated resource requirements.
* Actively work with Principals to drive client activity, initiating strategic and tactical solutions that are commercially creative for both clients and Gallagher. Provide the highest standard of service to clients and ensure effective ways of working and efficiency.
* Demonstrate your expertise by participating in voice to market activities such as speaking at events, posting articles on LinkedIn, and contributing to the annual thought leadership plan of the team.
* Provide overarching accountability for client service, standards and operational efficiency for a portfolio of client accounts delivered by Project team, as well as ensuring there are client development plans in place for all accounts.
* Regularly review market developments and industry trends and identify potential opportunities.
Development of team capability:
* Line management responsibility for a number of Principal Consultants covering HR, people, processes, operations, L&D and administration.
* Inspire, guide, train and motivate the Client Service Team to ensure that they perform at their peak and grow their careers, ensuring there are appropriate development plans in place for the CST teams.
* Develop the team's strategic ability and industry knowledge in-line with business growth areas and strategic direction, ensuring each account team has a clear talent and training plan that allows individuals to develop professionally, and the department to deliver its objectives.
* Lead on structural developments, resource & skill set planning and evolution as the business grows.
Relationships:
* Own the senior client relationship, becoming a trusted partner and their 'go to' communication expert. Build strong relationships with clients that enable effective, proactive consulting with clients in relation to their communication challenges and in line with any wider communication or business strategy.
* Act as a key point of contact for UK practice country leads and be responsible for financial reports.
* Partner and consult with sales leads on identified new business opportunities.
* Work closely with the SME and culture team to ensure best practice and ways of working across CST and relevant client opportunities, as well as understanding skills, expertise and proposition.
* Mitigate conflicts by proactively seeking outcomes that are acceptable to all stakeholders across the communication practice and Gallagher Benefit Services (GBS)/Gallagher Global Brokerage (GGB).
Administration/financial:
* Ensure the governance of the Client Service Team, leading by example and championing our processes, holding the team to account for ensuring business critical tasks are completed.
* Accurately record all chargeable and non-chargeable time.
* Proactively look for ways to improve our processes, agree buy-in from the Communications Leadership Team (CLT) and support and drive the changes.
Business growth and development:
* Ensure the profitable growth of the business by identifying and proactively developing opportunities to secure additional revenue from existing clients and new client relationships. (e.g., white space and cross-selling initiatives, referrals, professional connections and leveraging Gallagher's BetterWorks proposition.)
* Work closely with the CLT and Gallagher Benefit Services (GBS) leadership team to lead our business to achieve its strategic objectives, overcome external market challenges and ensure our culture and values are integral to everything we do.
* Lead on designated growth areas for Gallagher's Communication Practice, helping to develop, market and embed new or evolved propositions.
* Lead and manage pitches with new and existing clients, as well as provide support with 'new-new' business leads.
* Working on product and proposition development.
About you
Technical Knowledge:
* Significant Retirement Industry awareness, knowledge and technical understanding.
* Consultancy or agency background.
* Team management / people management experience mandatory.
* Demonstrable track record of working directly with senior stakeholders, including Board level executives and having sole responsibility for managing complex client accounts.
* Proven commercial management of revenue, growth and profitability across a large portfolio of clients and people.
Skills/other:
* Excellent senior stakeholder management skills, with the ability to mitigate risks and manage conflicts both at internal and external levels.
* Ability to lead and manage a team.
* Strong organisational, coordination, project and time management skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Knowledge of communication best practice, with specific understanding of the role of internal communication and employee engagement in business.
* Presentation, influencing and networking skills.
* Commercial understanding and financial management.
* Excellent ability to manage risk and challenge at senior stakeholder level.
* Service focused - outstanding customer service, ability to translate client needs and manage expectations.
* Confidence to challenge and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
