Description DNV Energy Systems Risk Advisory is seeking Senior and Principal Safety Consultant to join our Stockport office. Working in cross functional consulting teams involved in project delivery, project management and business development. We support clients from a wide range of major hazard sectors, including government agencies, energy producers and distributors, chemical manufacturers, renewables developers, and oil and gas operators. With our advanced research programmes in hydrogen, carbon capture and renewables, coupled with our world leading modelling capability and deep process safety management expertise, we are at the forefront of helping clients navigate the energy transition. Risk Advisory is a growing department of approximately 150 people in our Energy Systems business area, with offices in Aberdeen, Loughborough, Stockport and London. We provide a wide range of safety and integrity engineering and risk management services to the energy industry both onshore and offshore. We utilise a comprehensive range of tools for consequence modelling and risk analysis, typically developed and validated through large/full scale experiments performed at our major hazards testing and research facility in Spadeadam. Our Opportunity: As a Senior/Principal Safety Consultant, your role will involve interacting with customers and colleagues across our business to collaborate on technical problems and to develop solutions. You will contribute to establishing the UK Risk Advisory strategy and driving its implementation by involving a wide range of team members, providing project QA and technical direction. You will also support in the development of other consultants through project management activity and coaching. As a team, we have recently completed projects such as:- A full QRA study for a refinery in the Middle East HAZOP/LOPA for a multi-million pound hydrogen production project Inherent safety design review for a novel hydrogen production facility Independent Process Safety audit of a UK refinery Control of Work safety assessment for a UK offshore oil and gas operator UK Offshore Oil and Gas operator Process Safety leadership assessments and Safety Case re-writes Investigation of a major accident hazard pipeline incident Development of industry guidance on CCUS Training of multinational offshore oil and gas operators on bowtie barrier management and the role of technical authorities In this role, you will lead the delivery of safety-related projects, ensuring they meet scope, budget, and customer expectations, while coordinating support from multidisciplinary teams. You’ll share your expertise across project activities, mentor junior staff, and delegate appropriately to focus on complex challenges. Your insights into customer needs will help shape and grow our service offerings, and you’ll contribute to department-wide consistency through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Innovation is key—you’ll continuously seek ways to enhance delivery processes and tackle novel problems using your technical expertise. Your approach will balance technical innovation with practical delivery, tackling complex challenges through deep expertise and broad industry knowledge. As a trusted advisor, fostering long-term client relationships, you'll utilise your strong understanding of client priorities and strategic industry trends/insights, to influence decision-making, maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and drive repeat business. You will strategically engage with the market through wider activities to showcase DNV capabilities, for example, professional / industry bodies, conferences, JIPs, external publications, or social media. Chartered Engineer status, or significant progress towards this Excellent numerical and analytical skills - able to analyse and understand complex problems and create logical solutions and ideas using domain knowledge and a range of techniques / theory and software / tools Comfortable in engaging with colleagues and customers and communicating effectively in written and verbal reports, presentations and/or proposals Ability to delegate more routine aspects of their work Project management skills The role will be based in Stockport with an expectation of three days per week attendance in the office. However, flexible working options may be considered. The position also involves travel within the UK and occasionally overseas for client-related work.
