About the Role:
Teaching Personnel is working with a friendly, forward-thinking primary school in Newport, seeking a committed KS1 Teaching Assistant to support children across Reception to Year 2. You'll work closely with teachers and the SENCO to deliver targeted support in phonics, early literacy, and maths, helping pupils develop essential skills and confidence.
Whether you’re supporting a Year 1 child with phonics or helping a Year 2 pupil build number skills, your work will make a meaningful impact every day.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead small-group and 1:1 interventions in Reading, Writing, Phonics, and Maths
2. Help children overcome learning barriers and build self-esteem
3. Support children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including autism, speech and language needs, or ADHD
4. Assist teachers with differentiated tasks and scaffolded learning
5. Promote positive learning behaviour and independence
6. Contribute to a calm, supportive classroom atmosphere
7. Monitor progress and communicate with staff
Ideal Candidate:
1. Experience in KS1 or strong knowledge of the early primary curriculum
2. Confident in supporting early learning, particularly in phonics and numeracy
3. Calm, patient, and nurturing approach
4. Strong communication and relationship-building skills
5. Proactive, flexible, and eager to support children’s growth
6. ALN/SEN experience is a bonus—training is available
Requirements:
1. EWC (Education Workforce Council) registration
2. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (child-only)
3. Two recent professional references
