Lead Engineer – T&D

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Lead Engineer to join the Test & Development team, responsible for body systems testing across various projects. In this role, you will manage test programmes for vehicle, sub-system, and component evaluations, both within AD and at third-party facilities. You will be responsible for overseeing two Technicians, ensuring the smooth operation of the workshop, and supporting with test rig design, equipment procurement, and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of bus and commercial vehicle systems, including structures, HVAC, and seating, as well as hands-on experience with instrumentation and data loggers.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
1. Manage vehicle, sub-system and component test programmes.
2. Arrange necessary resources to complete the required test work;
3. Internally within ADL (including other ADL facilities).
4. Externally on public roads, 3rd party proving grounds and test facilities.
5. Define and procure required equipment to progress test work.
6. Define, select and use appropriate instrumentation.
7. Perform vehicle and test rig data collection and analysis.
8. Understand and use data analysis software.
9. Good communication internally within ADL and externally with suppliers.
10. Manage internal and external customer expectations with regular communication updates, both written and verbal.
11. Completion of test reports to required standard.
12. Complete supplier component testing and work closely with suppliers to obtain approvals.
13. Travel is required to perform duties.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
14. Solid understanding of bus and commercial vehicle and systems and body systems, in particular;
15. Structures.
16. HVAC systems.
17. Seating.
18. Vehicle test and development.
19. Test rig design, construction, commissioning and use.
20. Experience with pneumatics, instrumentation, data loggers and diagnostic tools.
21. Highly technical, but also possess a hands-on approach and workshop skills.
22. Flexible, willing to adapt to changing requirements and a pragmatic outlook.
23. Willing to question established methods, research and propose suitable alternatives.
24. PCV driving license (desirable).
