The opening presents the opportunity to join the Building Technologies Group, who are part of the wider Building Services team. The team playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across a plethora of sectors including Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (eg Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Residential, Blue Light, Education, Transportation and Defence. Our work will have you working with designers all across the UK and internationally on projects that range from small net zero carbon housing developments to projects of significant and national scale.
The opportunity will require candidates to be client-facing as well as being involved in the day-to-day design and management of projects. It is an exciting opportunity for an experienced security engineer to further develop their career within a leading building design consultancy.

Our ideal individual will bring strong technical skills to the role, as well as an enquiring mind able to contribute to the growth of our digital practice, and the potential to lead and manage large and diverse delivery teams, locally and remotely.
The senior security engineer role will assist in developing the team within the Building Technologies Group, providing expert advice and assisting in the development and enhancement of our in-house technical standards, details and specifications.
Requirements:
16. Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification in a Security, Electronic Engineering, or ICT related discipline.
17. Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or be working towards Chartership.
18. Strong project experience of designing enterprise level electronic access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems.
19. Understanding of systems integration and security management systems.
20. Good understanding of IP data networks and the associated physical infrastructure.
21. Experience of digital engineering technologies / Building Information Management (BIM), the ability to use key software packages such as Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD would be desirable.
22. Experience of working in a design consultancy and/or experience of working within a contractor design environment is essential.
23. Detailed knowledge of appropriate technical standards.
24. Able to take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative, and operate in a pro-active way.
25. Good report writing skills, experience of making presentations and attending meetings with clients is essential.
26. Comfortable working within time and cost budgets as agreed at project briefing meetings.
27. Undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties as required by the management team from time to time, to maintain flexibility in the organisation.
28. Experience of one or some of our active sectors would be advantageous.
Responsibilities:
29. Ensuring an understanding of project briefs.
30. Design and specification of electronic security systems, producing design documentation such as:
31. General arrangements indicating video surveillance, access control and intrusion detection system equipment positions.
32. Camera field of view drawings.
33. Door elevation details, indicating setting out of access control systems in compliance with statutory requirements.
34. Installation details.
35. System schematics.
36. Detailed equipment schedules indicating all devices and their key functional criteria, operational requirements etc.
37. Performance / technical specifications.
38. Carry out (and managing of others) the production of detailed calculations using industry standard software.
39. Collaborate with our BIM team to prepare models and drawings, with a working understanding of Autodesk Revit. Engineers who can design straight to screen are encouraged.
40. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary design team.
41. Work in partnership with AtkinsRéalis Global Technology Centre (GTC) to add value to building services projects where appropriate.
42. Representing AtkinsRéalis at meetings with clients and contractors.
43. Site surveys, inspections and monitoring of site works.
44. Managing own workload, updating forward plan of workload regularly and working to time allocations.
45. Managing elements of project delivery and an understanding of budget costings.
46. Reviewing progress, including reporting any anomalies and changes of scope to the project lead.
47. Technical report writing.
48. Maintaining complete records and archives to company standards and adherence to all quality, environmental & governance processes.
49. Assisting with the mentoring and development of junior staff.
50. Keep up to date with latest technology developments.
51. Finding solutions and options for digital transformation and the industry net zero carbon challenge.
52. Helping to develop internal technical standards, documentation, and specifications.
53. To assist the wider team based on project workloads, including across the ICT discipline where required.
