Targeted Youth Support - Assistant Youth Support Worker
Do you want to make a real difference to young peoples lives? Then this is a fantastic opportunity for you to 'Step into Youth Work'.
The Targeted Youth Support team, part of Lancashire County Council's Children and Family Wellbeing Service, are looking to recruit a 6 hour a week worker (2 x 3 hours an evening) as an Assistant Youth Support Worker for Wyre & Fylde District, who is enthusiastic, organised, and passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives.
This position is part-time; the salary quoted is full-time equivalent, and the salary received will be paid on a pro-rata basis.
This post involves evening work – usually between 6:30-9:30pm across two evenings. The Service is a key contributor to the prevention and early intervention agenda for Lancashire County Council, enabling young people to succeed by providing high-quality informal education opportunities to promote their personal and social development.
The TYS team is one of the biggest employers in the UK of JNC qualified youth workers, and we follow the Pink Book terms and conditions, offering more leave due to the unsocial hours. You will also, as part of JNC, be on a Teachers Pension if you so desire.
Youth work focuses on personal and social development – the skills and attributes of young people – rather than merely ‘fixing a problem’. It is an educational process that engages with young people in a curriculum that deepens their understanding of themselves, their community, and the world, supporting them to proactively bring about positive changes.
In Lancashire, the Targeted Youth Support Team delivers core youth work, including Detached/outreach working on the streets with young people, Special Educational Needs & Disability support for young people aged 11 - 19 (up to 25 if SEN), safe spaces offering targeted youth places, and supporting youth voice through district youth councils linked to Lancashire Youth Council.
If you think you have the skills and are keen to work with young people to make a difference in their lives, please apply and connect with the team during the drop-in session details below. We would be happy to meet you, discuss the role, and answer any questions you may have.
As part of the role, you will be required to undertake your level 2 youth work qualification if you do not already have one. Lancashire County Council will support you in terms of time and the cost of the course.
Closing Date: 01st December 2024
Interview Date: w/c 16th December 2024
