Job Description
Law firm - Head of Governance & Risk
We are proud to be working with one of the leading national law firms in health, housing and social care. It has an unrivalled understanding of the public, professional regulatory and emergency services sectors and is highly regarded for its practical, market-driven solutions. With over 40 years of history already the firm continues to expand and is going from strength to strength.
The firm is well supported by the current governance and risk team of 12 members, divided between offices in Birmingham and London. However, as the team grows a need for a new Head of Governance & Risk has been identified and we are delighted to bring this vacancy to market.
The role will report to the Director of Governance & Risk and will manage and co-ordinate the work of the Compliance & Quality Team (4 Governance & Risk Executives (all solicitors) and 2 Governance & Risk Analysts) which is a proactive team working across the firm to ensure quality and risk management is implemented through policy, procedure, process, risk controls and auditing. This is a wide-ranging role covering all the key areas of law firm risk and compliance.
We are seeking an experienced individual who has a range of expertise across financial crime, SRA regulation, conflicts and commercial issues and must have worked in a law firm environment previously. The role does not necessarily require a qualified solicitor and applications from senior compliance advisors with legal sector experience will be welcomed. Previous team leadership is also advantageous but is not essential.
The post holder must be confident in given technical advice and should be comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders as well as training and supporting junior members of the team. It is a role that will require the individual to take on responsibility and there must be a desire to deliver the best-in-class service. The firm itself has a culture of people first and is a friendly and supportive working environment.
This is an important and high-profile appointment for the firm and for the right individual there is an opportunity for future growth into the Director of Governance & Risk position.
