About the Role
The candidate will provide leadership and technical support to the team to ensure that all proposed new highways have been designed and detailed in accordance with relevant standards for adoption under Section 38 of the Highways Act 1980 and amendment of existing highways under Section 278 of the same Act. This will include motivating the Engineering Design team to ensure effective performance in the delivery of new and amended highways as well as supporting the personal development of the team. The candidate will use their extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and standards to liaise effectively with stakeholders, developers and their agents, statutory bodies, elected members and the public on all projects. The role will involve the requirement to prepare legal instructions and negotiation of legal agreements while liaising with solicitors on behalf of the client and developers.
About you
The candidate will have strong leadership skills, including evidence of delivering highways projects of varying complexity. The candidate must be a Chartered, or Incorporated, member within a relevant institution and hold an undergraduate degree with significant and demonstrable experience of delivering highways construction projects. The candidate's demonstrable experience will include excellent communication skills, ability to work independently across multiple schemes, capacity to make effective decisions in high-pressured environments and possess commercial awareness together with a working knowledge of NEC4 ECC.
