We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in West Sussex to assist with the appointment of a Coroner's Referral Officer, on a 5-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Rate of Pay: £15.87 - £19.69 per Hour Summary: In this role, you will be responsible for recording sudden and unexpected death in line with the Coroners and Justice Act 2009, Coroners (Investigations) Regulations 2013, Coroners (Inquests) Rules 2013 and the Chief Coroners Guidance. You will deal directly with HM Senior and Area Coroners for West Sussex, bereaved families and a variety of third-party agencies on a daily basis, so clear communication and liaison is key to the role to ensure all parties are updated with the progress of referrals and are provided with appropriate support. Responsibilities: Solely responsible and has the autonomy to record sudden and unexpected death in line with the Coroners and Justice Act 2009, Coroners (Investigations) Regulations 2013, Coroners (Inquests) Rules 2013 and the Chief Coroners Guidance. Acting as a single point of contact providing immediate support and guidance to bereaved families following sudden and unexpected death ensuring that families and interested persons are updated with the progress of the investigation and are provided with any necessary support. Preparing for and writing statements where appropriate of families, professionals and witnesses in compliance with Coroners and Justice Act 2009, Coroners (Investigations) Regulations 2013, Coroners (Inquests) Rules 2013 and the Chief Coroners Guidance Inputting all referrals to the Coroners Office to the Coroners database with all additional relevant paperwork. Developing and fostering new relationships with partner agencies and external service providers, negotiating and influencing information exchange and intelligence gathering. Essential: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the confidence and ability to influence and persuade others. Ability to independently exercise own judgement in a consistent manner, within confines of legislation and agreed procedures. Full driving licence. Qualifications: A level qualification or equivalent experience within the coronial environment. Good knowledge of Coroners policies and procedures relating to Coroners investigations.
