The TNEI Energy Networks team assists network companies, governments and regulators with specialist studies, data analysis, and the development of innovative tools and services.
We are looking for a full-time Consultant with technical expertise in mathematical modelling and automation applied to energy systems, particularly the GB energy system. This role is suited to an experienced modeller with a focus on technical delivery and problem solving. As an Energy Systems Modelling Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery and future development of our consultancy services.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
* Specifying and running energy systems simulation models, considering topics like flexibility, asset condition, forecasting, resilience, system adequacy, etc.
* Research and development of modelling and simulation methodologies.
* Analysis and reporting of modelling results.
* Lead technical tasks and support/mentor more junior members of the team as required.
* Contribute to client meetings and internal coordination, as required, to support successful project delivery.
* Support the generation of cutting-edge ideas for new projects, both in proposals and for new innovation projects.
Knowledge Sharing and Thought Leadership:
* Production of both technical and non-technical material for disseminating studies to clients and on behalf of our clients.
* Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and networking events.
* Keep abreast of industry trends and developments.
Requirements:
Essential requirements include:
* Degree/ Masters in a highly numerate discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics or Physics, or engineering graduates with particularly strong maths and coding skills.
* At least 3 years relevant industry experience.
* Knowledge of the Great Britain transmission and distribution systems.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in writing project reports.
* Programming experience with Python and other programming languages.
* Experience of energy systems modelling (such as probabilistic modelling, optimisation, agent-based modelling, Monte Carlo simulation, etc).
* Well-rounded individual with the ability to both deliver work individually and as part of a team.
* Ability to engage with clients, forming long term and mutually beneficial relationships.
* Right to work in the UK.
Desirable requirements include:
* Experience of managing programming projects using Version control tools like Git.
* Commercial and Strategic thinking, good understanding of energy market trends, technologies and regulatory models. An ability to assess business drivers and models.
* Stakeholder Management and/or experience managing project teams, coordinating with partners and driving projects to successful outcomes.
* Experience with business development – engaging with external senior leaders, listening and co-forming prospective proposals.
* Experience in writing proposals for clients and managing projects.
* Commercial awareness and pro-active in seeking out new business opportunities.
* Post graduate research experience (Masters, PhD.) welcome but not essential.
