The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist nursing advice and carries out specialist nursing procedures. The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other staff, students and may undertake research, lead clinical audits in own specialist area. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of service users and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and improved patient experience through the adoption of person-centred care principles.
Main duties of the job
1. Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
2. Act as an advocate for the patient within the department, ensuring a patient-orientated approach to care delivery.
3. Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of individuals.
4. Be accountable for practice in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Professional Conduct.
5. Attend and participate in multi-professional team meetings/steering groups.
6. Organise own work and manage own caseload, maintaining supportive networks for self and other staff members.

Job responsibilities
1. Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multi-disciplinary team, delivering specialist individualised and personalised direct patient care.
2. Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
3. Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the specialty.
4. Act as an advocate for the patient within the department.
5. Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individual.
6. Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and other staff.
7. Ensure sensitive patient records are stored appropriately.
8. Support and enable patients and those important to them to make informed decisions regarding their treatment.
9. Provide leadership, support, and guidance to staff in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of individualised specialist care.
10. Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding treatment plans and symptom management.
11. Promote high quality clinical care and assist in the development of the specialist service.
12. Ensure patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience.
13. Promote best practice in end-of-life care.
14. Assist the Tissue Viability Specialist Lead in maintaining and improving current pathways.
15. Participate in audits as required.
16. Assist with the evaluation of the service ensuring key National and organisational guidance are incorporated.
17. Lead on developments relating to specialty to promote patient-focused services.
18. Deputise for the Clinical Nurse Specialist Lead in their absence.
19. Be a professional role model in liaising with the community and other members of the healthcare team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Mentorship/teaching qualification
* Evidence of continuing professional development
Knowledge & Skills
* Minimum of 2 years' experience post-registration
* Demonstrates specialist expertise acquired through continuous professional development.
* Up-to-date knowledge of current clinical professional issues
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care.
* Good communication skills, including dealing with sensitive information.
* Awareness of clinical governance and risk management.
* Ability to decide how best to achieve expected results within defined policies/procedures.
Experience
* Experience within wound care
* Competent in managing patients within the specialty.
* Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting.
* Experience in coordinating shifts and task allocation.
