An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Product Specialist in Powys Teaching Health Board. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has energy, enthusiasm, commitment, and ambition to work within a dynamic and progressive digital team supporting a range of functions.
This is a key role within the Digital service to ensure the successful implementation of the ePMA solution into PTHB.
Main duties of the job
The Product Specialist will be responsible for managing an Informatics product (i.e., clinical IT system) throughout its life cycle. Following broad occupational policies, they will ensure that products within their portfolio are delivered on time and within budget. The role will focus on informing the technical and design development of a product or a suite of products, as well as ensuring the business benefits of the product are realised.
* Ensure that specialist, complex products are processed in accordance with Health Board policies & procedures.
* Responsible for the data quality and quality assurance of the product, ensuring that data quality procedures and standards are implemented.
* The Product Specialist will project manage the implementation of the product including the development of project plans, risk registers, and regular update reports.
* Work largely autonomously under the direction of the Principal Specialist, working within agreed policies and frameworks.
* The role will involve close working with the Principal Specialist for Informatics, the Digital Transformation Team national clinical systems, and staff of all levels across the organisation.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Product Management
* Provide technical advice and information on all areas pertaining to the product.
* Inform the development process of the product’s design to reflect user requirements and workflows.
* Develop business plans related to the development of the product and its growth potential.
* Become the Health Board lead on the product and work closely with other Product Specialists to ensure links between other products and systems are made.
* Maintain a good technical understanding of the product as well as a range of other associated systems that may influence the product.
* Ensure that the specification of the product is in line with the business needs of the organisation.
* Responsible for the management and coordination of any product system downtime across the Health Board.
* Ensure software releases are properly scheduled and completed on time, complying with agreed quality standards.
* Assess the impact and implications of any implementation incidents and events, and report as appropriate.
* Provide user support and expert system advice to a range of individuals and groups.
Communication
* Lead specialist for all aspects within the organisation, including producing and distributing communications such as project update reports, training materials, and user guidance.
* Provide routine and complex information to project boards and teams.
* Ensure communications are maintained and kept up to date.
* Communicate complex product information to a range of stakeholders.
* Build strong working relationships with other IT professionals.
Business Planning
* Support the Principal Specialist for Informatics in developing UAT plans.
* Quality check release plans prior to Go Live.
* Work with colleagues to develop training materials and provide training as required.
* Proactively support managers to ensure project planning meets organisational needs.
Efficiencies and Improvement
* Produce comparative reports utilizing data sourced from various areas.
* Identify areas of best practice to support continuous improvement of service.
* Ensure compliance with agreed methodology, standards, policies, and procedures.
Business Analysis
* Work with the Principal Specialist and Head of Information to assess overall business and information requirements.
* Identify business needs and evaluate procedures/problems.
* Prepare graphical representations of processes.
Person specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant experience in an Informatics role or a related Digital ICT subject.
* Good knowledge of complex analytical and statistical methods.
* Significant experience in an Informatics role.
Experience
* Experience of applying a variety of analytical techniques.
* Production of reports.
* Experience of working with Clinical ESystems.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Highly developed problem-solving and analysis skills.
* Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with a range of stakeholders.

* Ability to travel within the geographical area.
