The successful candidate will be required to provide comprehensive secretarial support to the Cardiothoracic Surgical Team and its Consultants which sit within Cardiothoracic Services at the Northern General Hospital.
You will need to have the ability to work entirely independently whilst maintaining a high standard of work. The ability to prioritise your workload and to know when to escalate issues is essential. You will need to be able to liaise with staff throughout the Trust at all levels including Consultants, Management, Nursing staff, GP's, patients and patient relatives, dealing effectively and efficiently with their enquiries.
To be successful in your application you will need to be able to work on your own initiative with a good standard of education, experience of an office-based role, good sound secretarial, typing and IT skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills along with a clear understanding of patient confidentiality and the 18-week RTT pathway.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake a comprehensive medical secretarial service to the consultant and team including time management.
2. To maintain quality and up to date patient case notes which include entering clinic comments and acting upon the instructions therein.
3. To be responsible for the delivery (typing) of accurate clinical letters and operation notes where applicable.
4. To act as an initial point of contact for GP's, other consultant's medical staff, health care professions, patients etc.
5. Monitor results and chase outstanding results when necessary to ensure patient pathways are managed accurately and in a timely manner.
6. Ensure RTT pathways are correctly completed on the Trust Hospital Patient Record system in real time.
7. To receive and deal with a range of telephone enquiries from all disciplines effectively and professionally.
8. Ability to prepare, print, save and restore documents, letters and other work using a computerised system.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) including English grade C /4 or above or able to demonstrate the competencies required to carry out this role.
* RSA/OCR stage III (or equivalent) word processing or audio typing.
Experience
* Effective patient/customer care and telephone skills
* NHS and/or Local Authority (Social Care) experience
* An understanding of basic medical terminology
Further Training
* Competent confident use of IT packages, in particular Office 365
* End user training on PAS system
* Appropriate training on other Trust Patient Information systems
* Proven evidence of organisational skills with ability to work using own initiative and without supervision
* Ability to work to conflicting deadlines
* Ability to organise and prioritise own workload and adapt to change.
* Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently
* Ability to work to agreed quality standards
* Understanding of the reasons for and ability to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality

Salary: £26,530 to £29,114 a year (pro rata for part time staff)
