Job Description:
The Boeing Returnship Program is designed for individuals looking to relaunch their professional journey after an extended STEM career break or absence from the workforce. The program provides an initial 12-week salaried fixed-term contract, with the goal of successful candidates achieving a permanent position within the organization.
Major UK programs such as Apache, Chinook, C-17, P-8A, and Wedgetail are supported and delivered by Boeing Defence UK (BDUK), a subsidiary of The Boeing Company. Employing more than 1,800 people, BDUK also provides engineering sustainment and support for aircraft in service with the UK armed forces, along with virtual and instructor-led training. BDUK is well positioned to support the UK with its current and future defense and security challenges.
As part of the delivery of the BDUK contract, Boeing (BDUK) has a requirement to support a range of Technical Publications, including the provision of Aircraft Maintenance Manuals and Component Maintenance Manuals. This position will complete contract requirements with a Safety and First Time Quality mindset working within an integrated team environment.
Outline of initial work/role to be undertaken during the 12-week placement:
1. Boeing induction activities (the first 2 weeks)
2. Familiarisation of team and aircraft
3. Learning how to write technical publications and use the relevant tools
Location: Bristol
Working Pattern (Site/Hybrid/Remote): Hybrid – 3 days a week in the office for the first 12 weeks, further flexibility after that depending on preference and level of support needed.
Skills and Experience:
1. Ability to read technical drawings
2. Comfortable initiating action – e.g., proactive in seeking out information, initiating meetings with key stakeholders
3. Good interpersonal skills (face to face, verbal and written)
4. Attention to detail
5. Engineering background – ideally in Aerospace but relatable sectors can transfer too
Preferred qualifications and experience:
Engineering degree in a relevant subject or lower level qualification in relevant subject coupled with equivalent experience.
Required: Minimum 12 months continuous or combined career break
Work Authorisation: This position does not have sponsorship approval. Candidates must have current legal authorization to work immediately in the United Kingdom.
Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
Security Clearance requirements: Eligibility for SC level security clearance is required - To be eligible for clearance, you need to be a British National and have lived in the UK for the past 5 years with no breaks.
