MARINA OPERATIVE – CASUAL WORKER
Marina Developments Ltd is the UK’s leading Marina operator with several marinas within the UK situated at idyllic locations.
We are looking to engage a casual worker to support our team on an ad hoc basis at MDL Torquay Marina. This role will be a no-fixed hours casual worker contract.
Typically, casual work assigned to you will be based at Torquay Marina. There may also be the opportunity to work at one of our other sites within the region.
The role of our Casual Marina Operative will be to assist the team from time to time supporting the site with various tasks and shifts that require casual resource.
The role will include but not limited to:
Ø Provide a meet and greet service to all members and visitors
Ø Overseeing the berthing allocations of vessels
Ø To carry out general maintenance tasks as required
Ø Ensuring the telephone is answered in the correct and timely manner
Ø To ensure all customer enquiries are dealt with both promptly and efficiently
Ø Assisting in actively marketing and promoting the marina and associated services
Ø Maintaining the security of the site
Ø Carry out all duties in line with Company policies, particularly focused on compliance with H&S and Customer Service standards
The key requirements for this role are but not limited to:
Ø Enthusiastic and friendly with a flexible and positive ‘can do’ attitude
Ø Previous experience in a customer service environment (in a leisure/marina/hospitality industry an advantage)
Ø General maintenance skills (not essential but an advantage)
Ø Self-motivated and able to work without supervision
Ø Sound awareness of basic health and safety in the workplace
Ø Confident use of IT systems
Ø A practical, resourceful and common-sense approach
Ø Good practical boating skills/qualifications (not essential but an advantage)
Ø Competent swimmer (essential)
Ø Educated to at least GCSE level or equivalent

Prime Tasks and Responsibilities:
* Maintain a visible presence with regular patrolling of the site, recording and/or reporting any problems or issues to the relevant persons or services.
* To carry out checks to ensure the safety and security of vessels, buildings, vehicles and people within the marina site boundaries and completed external lighting checks as required.
* To provide a meet and greet service to visitors, taking lines, assisting customers with trolley requirements, directing traffic onto the site and dealing with initial site enquiries, recording all visitor details.
* Organise the berthing of boats to yield maximum occupancy, ensuring that all payments for services are received in accordance with the company’s finance policy.
* To serve fuel to customers and take all relevant payments via the MDL fuel berths always ensuring highest customer service levels.
* To carry out all fueling operations in accordance with the Company Health & Safety Policy.
* To carry out routine maintenance; ensuring the marina remains safe, secure, clean, tidy and well landscaped at all times and to complete the required safety checks.
* Ensure familiarity with emergency procedures and deal effectively with any emergency.
* Ensure a quality, professional service is provided in all contact with customers.
* To always ensure the highest levels of customer service and experience.
* To establish a good working relationship with staff, tenants and customers, which is based on trust and efficiency.
* To carry out other specific tasks or any other work reasonably requested by the management team in connection with the Company’s business.
* To ensure compliance with marina regulations by site users as necessary.
* To ensure that the management team is kept informed of any complaints or cause for concern.
* To ensure all legal, HSE and company policies including financial are being adhered to.
Working Relationships:
* Internal – Working with marina team members and other MDL departments to achieve site objectives, whilst complying with all company policies and procedures.
* External – Customers, Tenants, Suppliers and Contractors, Coastguard, other emergency services and various statutory bodies and organisations.
Performance Criteria:
* Health & Safety Compliance - To ensure all duties carried out are in accordance with the Company Health & Safety Policy and that all Risk Assessments are understood and adhered to.
* QMS - Deliver operational process and systems in accordance with the quality management systems of the MDL Way. All laid down Marina Regulations and company procedures and policies are always adhered to.
* Customer Service – Place our customers at the center of all our business practices ensuring outstanding customer care at all points of contact and in accordance with GUEST.
* Brand – Ensure you are in the correct uniform and that it is clean, presentable and well always maintained. To ensure the correct PPE is worn when necessary.
* Direct Reports/Team – All dealings with team members are carried out professionally, politely, and respectfully.
* Team Participation - To adopt a flexible attitude towards work location whilst providing the best in customer experience and site cover: driving customer focus to the forefront of your activities.
Purpose of This Role:
· To place the customer at the forefront of your daily duties and ensure excellence in customer service and customer experience is always achieved.
· To deliver operational process and systems in accordance with the quality management systems of the MDL Way.
· To ensure that 100% recoverable income is achieved throughout all marina and yard operations.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: £11.44 per hour
Licence/Certification:
* VHF or Powerboat Level 2 (preferred)
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Torquay
