We are seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Surgery Team at Pilgrim Hospital. You must be someone who enjoys the fast pace of life as well as being a great decision maker and communicator. You must be flexible, innovative, highly motivated and above all be committed to improving the care and assessment of people living with frailty. The skills and knowledge of the Occupational Therapists are essential in supporting patients and assisting them in recovering from illness, to return home sooner with a safe and effective discharge plan based on their current needs and abilities, whilst promoting their independence and dignity, with the ultimate aim to improve the patient outcome and experience.
Main duties of the job
To manage a complex caseload, whilst using expert clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advise to patients, families and staff to support discharge planning. With a focus on the person's meaningful occupations, enabling participation in daily activities to improve and support quality of life.
To complete complex moving and handling assessments and/or demonstrating the use of moving and handling equipment with families and/or informal carers to support discharge planning and to promote independence. This may also include identifying and completing access and environmental home assessments to identify and minimise potential risk, part of effective discharge planning.
To also support the therapy assistant practitioner within the team with the delegation of assessments, caseload management and to provide regular supervision.

Qualification
Essential
* Occupational Therapy DipCOT or BSc OT
* Occupational Therapy HCPC Registration.
* Willingness to complete postgraduate study relating to the clinical area.
Desirable
* RCOT Member.
* ECDL or equivalent
* Practice Education certificate/ APPLE
* Willingness to undertake post registration study relevant to Frailty
Experience
Essential
* Relevant post graduate Occupational Therapy experience within an acute NHS or Community setting
* Evidence of participation in Clinical Governance activities.
* Evidence of active involvement in service developments
* Evidence of completion of your preceptorship
* Knowledge and understanding of Frailty as a condition.
