Brief Description: You’ll help keep our nation moving every single day. This is a critical part of the work we do — the daily upkeep of the rail network.
From establishing safety arrangements to checking the quality of work, you’ll direct and inspire a team involved in inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal.
About the role (External): You’ll be hands-on, ensuring work is done efficiently and to high standards. Safety will be a priority. You’ll establish safety arrangements and ensure compliance among staff and contractors. You’ll control and check the quality of work, assess competence, and ensure assets are compliant, with all equipment fit for purpose. You’ll compile vital reports.
Track Maintenance Responsibilities: Maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the track network (Permanent Way or P-Way) to keep the railway safe and efficient. This involves working with rails, sleepers, ballast, drainage, and structures.
Leadership: You’ll lead, organize, and motivate a high-performing team.
Requirements include:
* Experience in organizing and controlling safe, efficient work delivery
* Excellent communication skills
* Knowledge of maintenance, inspection, faulting, and renewal techniques
* Knowledge of standards, procedures, and instructions
* Leadership qualities with clear direction
* NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) or relevant experience
* Driving license (category B)
Additional Information:
* Shifts include days, nights, weekends
* Outdoor work in all weather conditions
* Employment is subject to drug, alcohol, medical, and BPSS checks
* Must be within 60-minute commute of Gloucester
