UK Wallball is the national governing body for wallball in the UK, promoting community participation and healthy recreation in the sport. As a registered charity, our goal is to provide facilities and coaching for playing wallball and advance physical education among young individuals in schools, youth clubs, and universities. Located in the London Area, United Kingdom, we are dedicated to growing the sport and fostering a sense of community through wallball.
Role Description
We are looking for a part-time coach to work with us over the year to deliver Wallball in schools and youth clubs across London. You will work with young people aged 11-25, teaching them Wallball and acting as a role-model. We’re looking for you to be positive, encouraging, enthusiastic and to mentor young people as part of the Jack Petchey Wallball project.
This is a part-time role which requires your availability during term time. This will include coaching multiple sessions a day across multiple schools/youth clubs in London. We work with schools to create a full schedule on each day; however, you will be expected to travel between sites in the downtime between sessions.
We will train you as an Advanced Wallball Coach so that you feel comfortable in the role. You will have unprecedented access to GB players to help you learn and a 2-week induction into Wallball.
Responsibilities
In this role you will be expected to:
* Lead PE and after school Club sessions at schools and youth clubs.
* Work in partnership with the school’s sport/PE department to deliver a high-quality coaching programme that includes supporting whole school curriculum lessons, alongside the PE staff as required.
* Apply tailored programme structures designed to overcome barriers to participation and strategies to fully include targeted and disadvantaged/disengaged young people in the programme.
* Establish opportunities for participants to access internal and external competitive opportunities both on and off the court.
* Provide evidence for each session appropriately in line with UK Wallball data collection requirements (e.g. safety/risk assessment/impact).
* Ensure all coaching activities are compliant with H&S regulations from both UK Wallball and the schools/clubs.
* Meet all UK Wallball Essential Operating Standards (EOS) and ensure you take responsibility for maintaining a high quality of work within your role.
* Take a proactive role in promoting and communicating the progress of the programme to internal/external stakeholders and advocate for UK Wallball to the public.
* Wear appropriate approved UK Wallball branded clothing (unless otherwise authorised) at all times.
* Attend and support the delivery of UK Wallball key events (e.g. JPF 1 Wall Showdown and European Juniors competition) if required.
Qualifications
Required
* Minimum of 1 NGB Level 2 (or equivalent) coaching qualification in a comparable sport (we don’t expect you to be a current Wallball Coach).
* Minimum of 1 year experience coaching sports.
* Enhanced DBS and Child Protection certification up to date.
* Knowledge and experience of delivering fully inclusive games programmes, in a school, community or sports club setting for large group sizes.
* Knowledge of Safeguarding & Child Protection principles and good practice.
* Flexibility to grow as the sport does.
* Reliable with excellent time keeping and time management skills.
* Availability during term time and for a few major Wallball events through the year.
* Experience of working with young people from disadvantaged and underrepresented groups including, black, Minority and Ethnic (BME), girls, people with learning and physical disabilities and others typically not engaged in sport and physical activity.
* Leadership qualities and ability to be a role model to young people and peers.
* Proficiency with IT systems including Microsoft Office suite and social media.
* Knowledge of Equality & Inclusion principles, Health & Safety issues, handling sensitive and confidential information and situations.
* Highly passionate about UK Wallball’s mission and ethos.
