Join CWA as a Development Consent Order Specialist for Sizewell C
Are you a skilled specialist in consent and permitting, ready to take on a challenging role within one of the UK's largest infrastructure projects? The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) has an exciting opportunity for a Development Consent Order (DCO) Specialist on the Sizewell C (SZC) project. This role involves providing support and advice to operational and leadership teams on all aspects of DCO, consent/permit compliance management, and legal obligations.
About Sizewell C: Sizewell C is a landmark project on the Suffolk coast, featuring two European Pressurized Reactors (EPRs) with a combined capacity of 3.2 gigawatts. This project will generate low-carbon electricity for approximately six million homes, ensuring a reliable and clean energy source for the future.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Provide expert advice and support to operational teams on environmental matters and compliance with the DCO and associated consents/permits.
Act as the main point of contact for interfacing with SZC and supplying necessary information to secure and comply with various consents.
Review work packages and compliance obligation matrices to identify and communicate potential consenting risks, opportunities, and obligations.
Collaborate with SZC and coordinate with the supply chain to ensure necessary consents/permits are in place before commencing relevant works.
Develop, maintain, and update local Compliance and Commitment Plans (CCP) to monitor and report compliance across the project.
Maintain relationships with regulators, SZC, and the supply chain on consenting and permitting matters.
Support CWA in identifying risks and opportunities related to target outturn costs of relevant work packages.
Develop and maintain relationships with local stakeholders and attend project meetings as required.
Investigate non-compliance incidents and support the project team in implementing controls to prevent recurrence.
Deliver training, toolbox talks, and coaching for the project team.
Produce internal and external reports and support audit and assurance activities, including facilitating audits by SZC.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
Knowledge and experience of delivering projects in accordance with a DCO.
Understanding of construction programmes and schedules.
Degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Town Planning, or a related field.
Practical experience in implementing compliance commitment plans and strategies.
Full UK driver’s license and flexibility to travel.
Understanding of the utilities, construction, or engineering operating environment.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
Internal auditor qualification.
Knowledge or experience of DCO and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs).
Master’s degree in a relevant field.
