Do you want to join a fantastic prosthetic rehabilitation team? Do you want to develop services for amputees? Do you have an interest in Orthoplastic rehabilitation?
If so, then this is the post for you. We are looking for an individual who is energetic and passionate about improving services for amputees of all ages. This part time 8 session post is linked with the Major Trauma Centre, Regional Vascular Centre and the Children's Hospital for Wales, based at the nearby University Hospital for Wales, and will in-reach to provide expert amputee advice.
The individual would be joining our rehabilitation medicine family with six colleagues based in major trauma, neurorehabilitation and spinal injury services. There are many opportunities to be involved with undergraduate and post graduate teaching and there are close links with Cardiff University to develop research interests. There is no on-call commitment associated with this post. Please contact the department to discuss the post further. We look forward to working with you.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with colleagues in the MTC and plastic surgeons based at Morriston Hospital. Complex reconstructions and congenital limb deficiencies require close collaboration to ensure that patients are fully informed of the treatment choices available to them and that their rehabilitation is optimal. It is a post which complements the expertise and skill set currently within the rehabilitation consultant pool within the region. There are other Consultants with some amputee medicine experience, but it is anticipated that the post holder will lead the development of amputee and vascular rehabilitation services and take an active role in the clinical governance associated with the clinical services.
The post holder will liaise with the wider network across Wales and the UK to ensure that services are of high quality and meeting national guidance. The role will link with provision of care for Veterans with limb loss and ensure that care of Veterans in this area is meeting Welsh government expectations. The post holder will also provide the specialist teaching for the rehabilitation medicine trainees during their amputee attachments.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within 6 months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
The basic salary range for this post is £84,800 per annum to £123,808 per annum for an 8-session commitment.
