Corby Business Academy is looking for a Parent Governor to join our governing body. As a Parent Governor, you will be a volunteer who makes a vital contribution to the success of the Academy.
In this voluntary role, you will work as part of a team and play a crucial role in ensuring the Local Governing Board is connected with parents, carers, and the community.
Ideally, we are looking for:
1. A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for pupils.
2. Good interpersonal skills, a willingness to learn, develop new skills, and attend relevant training.
3. The ability to support and work within the School Improvement Plan framework.
4. The ability to attend and contribute in meetings whilst maintaining confidentiality.
5. The ability to work as part of a team and value the contributions of others who may hold alternative views to your own.
Requirements:
Governors are required to attend three full governing body meetings per year and attend other ad hoc meetings as required. Governor meetings are held in the Academy after school; timings are typically from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Governors will also be required to visit the school in between meetings to gain a greater understanding of the school, how it functions, and progress towards the School Improvement Plan.
Being a Governor is a "hands-off" role and although recommendations made by Governors influence the Academy, Governors are not responsible for, or involved in, the day-to-day running of the school.
To be eligible for this role, you must be the parent of a child at Corby Business Academy or be caring for a child at the Academy. This role does not involve discussing your own child.
Full training will be provided upon commencement of the role. Once in post, Governors will be required to attend regular training sessions, either in person or online.
In the event we receive two or more applications, then a nomination process will apply. Parent governors are elected to serve for a four-year period.
