For over 30 years, Somerville Heart Foundation (SHF) has been providing peer support, advocacy, communication and a community for young people and adults born with a heart condition; Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD). Our vision is that people living with ACHD lead as fulfilled lives as possible. We campaign for their rights to receive the best possible care, services and support. SHF works closely with specialist hospitals and healthcare professionals to achieve this. Our beliefs At SHF we believe that every adult born with a congenital heart condition in the UK should have: access to all necessary healthcare, delivered by appropriate specialists, quickly and easily access to mental health and psychological support where needed an understanding of their condition to confidently make lifestyle choices and be joint decision-makers in their healthcare if they so desire have their voice heard in decisions made about healthcare delivery that affects their care. “Nothing about us, without us.” knowledge about living with their condition, from driving, pregnancy, menopause, exercise etc the confidence to talk about their condition to family, friends, and in the workplace when required be recognised as someone with a long-term condition in the same manner as diseases such as diabetes the ability to live their best life. We aim to / our aims: provide accurate information and advice to enable people who have ACHD to make informed decisions create a community to combat the isolation felt by many people with ACHD enable people living with ACHD to share experiences and support each other campaign, educate and promote the rights and needs of people living with ACHD. Role Description/Job Overview This is a new and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly organised individual to join our team and expand our reach with considerable potential for personal development. The Digital Marketing, Fundraising and Communications Officer will play a key role in helping to develop and support the ongoing work of the organisation in alignment with our aims and objectives to represent patients at national level promoting the rights and needs of adults who have a congenital heart defect. The post holder will work as part of existing SHF team, demonstrating effective interpersonal (communication) skills in order to: develop and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders engage with the people we support identify opportunities to improve engagement with our community engage and inspire others about SHF’s work build on / expand our existing donor base develop corporate and community partners nurture excellent working relationships. The successful candidate will possess strong copywriting skills with experience targeting various audiences, channels and activities. They will spearhead our digital marketing, fundraising and communications to ensure the charity has the capacity to deliver against our strategic goals. A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is essential. The role will be initially office based with the potential to work from home in some instances. Main Responsibilities: work with the team to create, support, implement and deliver a robust fundraising strategy engage with our stakeholders through marketing, communications and fundraising to increase the profile of the organisation, develop relationships with existing and potential stakeholders to broaden our scope to a wider audience day-to-day management of the website and social media platforms delivering regular engaging, accessible digital audience led content in collaboration with our staff and members. This is a role that involves working flexibly within the existing team. You need to possess good time management and problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure at times.
