Would you like to make a valuable contribution to local children’s education, opportunities and futures? If yes, we are looking to appoint a new School Governor!
We currently have a vacancy for a Co-opted Governor and welcome interest from members of the community who are keen to make a positive contribution to our school.
Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to young people, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment. You will also be joining the largest volunteer force in the country!
The voluntary role of Governor works as part of a team and plays a vital role in ensuring the Governing Committee is connected with parents and the community.
What does a Governor do?
The governing board provides strategic leadership and accountability in school. It has three key functions:
1. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
3. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
What will be expected of you?
Time commitment varies depending on the needs of the school and the role you choose to take on. Commitments include:
1. 6 governing board meetings
2. School visits and/or meetings with staff and students
3. Background reading and administration
4. Attendance at training courses
Being a Governor is a “hands off” role – decisions made by Governors influence the whole school, but Governors are not responsible for, or involved in, the day-to-day running of the school. For an information discussion regarding the role please contact the Head Teacher (via the school office) or email admin@fieldjm.herts.sch.uk.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
All post holders are subject to safeguarding checks, including a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and satisfactory references.
