ESL delivers a portfolio of undergraduate degrees (with Foundation Year) with British partner universities, from eight campuses across the UK. All assessments are designed and delivered by the relevant partner university, with the expectation that they are marked locally by ESL.
As an ESL Core Assessor, you will play a key role in an improved and robust marking and moderation process, aligning standards with QAA, OfS, and Advance HE expectations. You will mark assessments from across a range of partner university degree programmes by applying the relevant marking criteria, in a specific field from Levels 3-6.
You will work as part of a marking team under the guidance of key internal staff members from the Assessment, Learning and Teaching, and Academic teams who will provide comprehensive training in the specific requirements of each assessment, including but not limited to:
* Using Turnitin effectively
* Understanding and applying marking standards
* Consistent application of marking criteria
* Classification of assignments
* Providing detailed and constructive feedback
* Identifying and addressing academic misconduct
Your marking will be checked by the Moderator and/or Senior academic colleagues to ensure consistency and accuracy of allocated grades and feedback.

The amount of work involved will depend on the type and length of assessment you will be marking.
* Typically, the marking window is 7 calendar days for first marking (exact dates and times will be communicated to you).
* Fees are dependent on the complexity and level of the paper you are marking. We offer a per script fee of minimum £8 (inclusive of holiday pay, pension contributions, and sick pay) with expectations on how many scripts are to be completed in an hour.
* Meeting attendance fee is £20 ph, if self employed.
What we’re looking for (essential)
* A teaching qualification or Masters (Level 7) degree in a related field
* Demonstrable subject expertise in one or more of the fields Business, Business Management Management, Law, Computing or Health and Social Care
* Computer/IT literate
* Proven previous experience of marking assessments (level 3 and above) by applying grading criteria and providing detailed feedback
* Understanding of linguistic features of writing, including grammar and style
* Attention to detail
* Timekeeping and high level of self motivation
* Have access to a secure Computer or Laptop with: up to date firewall, anti-virus software and access to a private strong internet connection
* Have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
* Awareness and adherence to GDPR
What we’re looking for (desirable)
* Level-7 Teaching Diploma (e.g., Cambridge Delta or Trinity TESOL)
* UK HE teaching and/or examining experience within the last three years
* Experience of using Turnitin to grade and provide feedback
* Experience of using Turnitin tools to check for potential academic misconduct
Next Steps
