Job Introduction
The Curation team in Digital Output is looking for an assistant editor for front pages to work on a 12 month attachment alongside the existing assistant editor.
The successful candidate will share day-to-day responsibility for curating one of the most popular and respected destinations on the internet - the BBC News front page. You will help lead a team of senior journalists who manage the front page and BBC News app.
Main Responsibilities
* Oversee daily curation, making sure we are presenting the most important stories and video of the day with the best headlines and images
* Provide daily editorial direction for front page SJs
* Act as a representative for the team in daily meetings, leading them where needed
* Help develop, enhance and consistently apply curation best practice
* Shape next-day front pages based on news priorities
* Provide insight, planning and strategic thinking on planned push alerts
* Maximise curation possibilities presented by Tipo and other tools
* Initiate and manage curation experiments to drive engagement and reach
Are you the right candidate?
* Excellent editorial judgement and experience of working with or in a curation team to execute a digital promotion plan for the front page
* Ability and willingness to be hands-on with the front page, while also being across other editorial priorities
* A thorough appreciation of UK and global news priorities in a fast-paced breaking news environment
* A track-record of using data to reach new audiences and drive habit
* A proven record of fostering an inclusive and purposeful team culture
* Demonstrable experience of developing and honing newsroom workflows
* Command of existing and new tools used to promote and curate content
