DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Engineering Specialist to join our team specialising in Braking Software Controls for our Cummins Drivetrain & Braking Systems Business Unit in Cwmbran, Wales, United Kingdom.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
* Innovative System Design: Develop and design control systems for electronic braking systems and other mechatronics, electro-pneumatic and electrical smart systems, considering the integration of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic components.
* Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with electronics, mechatronics, mechanical, and functional safety teams to define system requirements and functionality.
* Precision Control Algorithms: Write custom control logic and algorithms to achieve precise control and optimise performance optimisation.
* Simulation and Validation: Utilise simulation tools to create mathematical models for real-time testing and validation of control strategies, tuning parameters, and safety measures, refining algorithms as needed.
* Safety Compliance: Ensure all software and systems comply with safety standards like ISO 26262, perform risk assessments and implement necessary safety protocols.
* Comprehensive Testing: Conduct MIL (model in the loop), SIL (Software in the loop), and support HIL (hardware in the loop) testing, along with vehicle-level validation, to ensure control systems meet performance and quality standards.
* Technical Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve technical issues in electro-mechanical and electro-pneumatic systems, developing maintenance procedures and schedules to ensure system reliability.
* Detailed Documentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation, including system schematics, wiring diagrams, and user manuals, to support system implementation and maintenance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
* Exceptional Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to identify causes of product issues, implement data-driven solutions, and ensure customer protection.
* Mechanical Design Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems to create innovative and robust design concepts that meet lifecycle requirements and customer expectations.
* Expertise in Electronics and Electro-Pneumatic Components: A solid understanding of these components and the product development processes.
* Knowledge of Safety Standards: Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations in the product industry.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
* Extensive experience designing and programming control systems for mechatronics, electro-pneumatic, and electrical systems, including motors and linear actuators, with a strong foundation in custom control logic and algorithms.
* Significant experience designing and developing Braking controls software (EBS, ABS, ASR/TCS/DTC, ESC/ESP).
* Simulation and Programming: Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, C, C++, and Python.
* Vehicle Dynamics Plant Modelling: Skilled in using SimScape, TruckSim, and TruckMaker.
* Software Development: Experience in both rapid prototype (concept to validation) and production software development (SYS-SW lifecycle) is desirable.
