Job overview
We are looking for Registered Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners to join our orthopaedic theatre scrub team within the elective theatre department at Wansbeck General Hospital. This post will also support our emergency stream at the Northumbria Hospital on a weekend and out of hours rota.
Previous theatre experience would be an advantage, however a comprehensive training package is in place for newly qualified staff, or those new to the theatre environment.
The successful candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic and committed to delivering safe, high quality care.

Main duties of the job
Delivering excellent standards of care and providing patient support throughout the peri-operative phase, advocating on behalf of the dependent patient. Undertaking the scrubbed and circulating role, ensuring safe environment and practice is maintained. Working with, and supporting other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Preparation and monitoring of the environment of care, and equipment. Supervising junior colleagues, unregistered staff and students.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care under the direction of the senior nurse/SODP
To assist in the provision of nursing care and maintain high clinical standards
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
Develop over time and contribute to the management of a clinical area and take charge in the absence of Senior Nurse/ODP
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust.
This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates teamworking and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Qualifications
* Evidence of ongoing practice development
* Registered Mentor. Mentorship Qualification or relevant equivalent qualification (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period).
* Recognised post graduate theatre/anaesthetic qualification
* Recognised teaching qualification
* Diploma/degree in nursing/or health related topic
