Caledonian Construction are recruiting for: Drainage Engineer Key Responsibilities: Drainage Design: Develop and design drainage systems, including stormwater management, sewage systems, soakaways, and surface water drainage, using advanced software such as Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D. Flood Risk Assessment: Conduct and prepare detailed flood risk assessments (FRA) and drainage impact assessments to support planning applications or detailed design stages. Hydraulic Modelling: Use hydraulic modelling tools to analyze and optimize the performance of drainage networks, ensuring designs are efficient and cost-effective. Technical Reports: Produce comprehensive technical reports, specifications, and calculations that document the design process and are suitable for client presentations or regulatory submissions. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet local authority requirements, national design standards (e.g., NPPF, CIRIA SuDS), and environmental regulations. Sustainable Practices: Incorporate sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) into designs to promote environmentally friendly solutions and mitigate environmental impact. Client and Stakeholder Management: Engage with clients, contractors, planning authorities, and external consultants to understand project requirements, provide technical advice, and deliver on expectations. On-Site Support: Provide technical assistance during construction phases, including monitoring progress, resolving design issues, and conducting site inspections. Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate potential risks during the designing and construction phases, ensuring cost-effective and long-lasting solutions. Qualifications and Skills Required: Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Professional Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in drainage design, flood risk assessment, and hydraulic analysis. Technical Expertise: Proficiency in drainage software (MicroDrainage, HEC-RAS) and CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D), plus familiarity with GIS tools. Knowledge of Standards: Strong understanding of UK design standards, including DMRB, Sewers for Adoption, and SuDS Manual (CIRIA C753). Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think critically and solve drainage-related challenges effectively while delivering cost-effective solutions. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality technical reports and liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring all designs and reports meet the highest accuracy and quality standards. Chartership (Preferred): Candidates working towards or already holding a Chartered status with ICE or CIWEM are highly desirable. Desirable Competencies: Experience in sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
