We're opening a new Dental Education Practice in Plymouth City Centre later this year, and we're looking for Dental Therapists to join our team!
Initially working in our Plymouth Dental Education Facilities in Derriford and Devonport, you will transfer to our new Dental Education Practice (DEP) in Plymouth City Centre when this opens in Autumn 2025. The DEP will provide an innovative model of care comprising urgent and stabilisation dental care, and general and specialist dentistry delivered alongside placements for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as trainees undertaking dental foundation training. We're looking for Dental Therapists to provide high quality NHS dental therapy and hygiene services within the DEP. Patients may be referred via student teaching clinics or from our team of qualified dentists. You may also be involved in triage sessions to identify suitable patients for students to treat.
We are looking for a full-time Dental Therapist, or this opportunity could be available as a job share.
Main duties of the job
Role Summary:
To provide high quality NHS dental therapy and hygiene services within the Dental Education Practice (DEP). Patients may be referred via student teaching clinics or from our team of qualified dentists. You may also be involved in triage sessions to identify suitable patients for students to treat. There may also be an opportunity to supervise the clinical training of BSc Dental Therapy and Hygiene students. This will include supporting the development of clinical skills, knowledge and professional behaviour. You will work in a team environment where dental education and development of the whole team is encouraged.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Provide clinically appropriate, high quality NHS dental treatment to patients, following all relevant standards and guidelines.
2. Maintain PDSE standards of clinical governance, including infection control, patient confidentiality, clinical record keeping, etc.
3. Regularly carry out audits of clinical treatment, both own work and student treatment provision.
4. Monitor the activities and actions of the students in order to ensure development of clinical skills and knowledge and offer guidance in all aspects of clinical dental practice.
5. Ensure health and safety procedures are observed at all times.
6. Support clinical dental education standards by working to evidence-based practice and National and locally agreed (Peninsula Dental School) clinical guidelines and care pathways.
7. Support the work of the whole dental team employed by PDSE.

This Role Includes:
* A salary range of £51,739 - £70,423 (pro rata for staff working less than full time)

Qualifications
Essential
* A BSc or Diploma in Dental Therapy
* GDC registration
* Broad dental knowledge, with up-to-date knowledge of aspects of general practice within your scope of practice.
Experience

* Demonstrable clinical experience
* Active in clinical dental therapy/hygiene practice.
