British Glass is the trade association representing the UK Glass Industry including the interests of the big glass melters, as well as the wider glass supply chain. The industry contributes almost £2 billion to the UK economy annually and directly employs 6,000 people, with an estimated 150,000 indirect jobs.
Glass Technology Services, a subsidiary of British Glass, is a leading provider of glass testing and analysis, research and development, and consultancy, working globally with a wide range of customers including glass manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, food and drink brands, construction and retailers.
Purpose of Role
The purpose of the finance manager role is to report to senior management on the financial performance and stability of the business, and to control business spending by means of budget management and regularly reviewing financial procedures. The role also ensures that the businesses external financial reporting obligations and audit requirements are met.
Main responsibilities
· Line management responsibility for the Finance Coordinator, Business Support Officer and Corporate Administrator
· Preparation of month end journals
· Production of monthly management accounts
· Monthly variance analysis, reporting & reforecasting
· Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
· Weekly cashflow update including updating actuals and reforecasting
· Authorise all payments through the bank and manage active direct debits in line with the cashflow forecast
· Main point of contact for auditors and responsibility for ensuring timely submission of statutory accounts to companies’ house
· Oversee the Production and submission of quarterly VAT returns
· Annual budget preparation for approval by the board
· Production of financial KPI’s
· Review and authorise the financials for project proposals
· Produce information requested by externals for R&D tax credits
· Review & maintain financial procedures such as authorisation limits and fixed asset policies
· Prepare a quarterly financial report to be presented to the board
· Collaborate with business colleagues to provide essential support
· Other ad hoc duties relating to finance
Qualifications and experience
· AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting (Level 4) as a minimum
· Ideally will have already begun CIMA and passed operational level, but not essential
Knowledge and abilitiesEssential
· High level of skill using Microsoft Excel is essential. Must be confident in creating formulas such as sumifs, lookups, vlookups, hlookups and creating pivot tables
Desirable
· Previous experience of SAP ByDesign
· Previous experience of managing staff
· Good with other Microsoft Office products – Word & Powerpoint

· Some out of normal office hours working, travel and over-night stays may be required, including overseas.
