We have an internal Seondment opportunity for a Research Assistant to join the CASM Programme on a 12 month fixed term contract. About the Role: You will join the Sample Management team of the Cancer Aging and Somatic Mutation Programme (CASM). You will contribute to shipment, storage, transfer and fate of samples, and collaborate with colleagues to support process change and improvement. As part of this role, there may be opportunity to develop technical lab skills, should this be required You will be responsible for: Carrying out sample management protocols and procedures as required in a consistent and highly efficient manner, while checking and recording tracking information, and maintaining a high quality of work. About You: You should be adaptable to changing priorities and be able to work to a schedule whilst managing complex tasks and timelines. Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to a high degree of accuracy are imperative. Essential Technical Skills: BSc, HND or equivalent experience in a scientific subject Proven ability to track multiple tasks and actions Excellent computer skills with experience of standard office software (e.g. Google docs, Excel, Word) Experience in internal audits and/or inspections Understanding of the Human Tissue Act as relevant for the transfer and storage of human tissue samples Essential Competencies and Behaviours: Excellent attention to detail Proven ability to work accurately Good written and oral communication skills Ability to test and implement new approaches and techniques Capable of working to a schedule, and delivering a variety of tasks simultaneously to agreed deadlines and standards Able to take instruction, and work to guidelines and SOPs, with appropriate use of initiative when necessary Able to work both as part of a team and also independently, once appropriate training and guidance have been provided Good communication skills to allow accurate exchange of information About Us: The Cancer, Ageing and Somatic Mutation Programme pioneers data aggregation and informatics innovation, develops high-throughput cellular models of cancer for genome-wide functional screens and drug testing, and explores basic scientific questions about the role somatic mutation plays in clonal evolution, ageing and development. This role is in the CASM Operations team, a welcoming group who support all CASM Faculty Scientific groups.
