Upholstery Developer
Purpose
The Upholstery Developer will play a key role in the delivery of new product development into production which will involve working closely with the design & engineering team to guide projects from concept through to production and ensuring Continuous Improvement across the full range of product templates.
The Upholstery Developer will also use their skills and knowledge of products and materials to make improvements to existing designs & products relating to construction, fit, function & end-use requirements.
Responsibilities / Key Deliverables
1. Provide training and support on new developments into the production teams
2. Provide upholstery expertise and support to quality team.
3. Work with localisation teams for effective handover and support of new developments to third party suppliers.
4. Full ownership of templates, digitisation and associated modification and deviation processes.
5. Champion continuous improvements in the production factory, providing support to CI engineer and team leads
6. Develop the upholstery knowledge and competencies within the design department.
Core Competencies
7. 3-5 years in upholstery
8. A thorough understanding of templates including how to make and alter them
9. Experience of 2 disciplines of cutting / sewing / upholstery of different materials (woven, leather, vinyl, etc)
10. Competent with MS Office essential; some CAD/CAM preferred
11. Strong communication skills: listening, verbal, writing, and visual communication; confident supporting production teams with new products and any changes that follow post-handover
12. Good attention to detail, problem solving and clear communication
13. Ability to appropriately prioritise projects
14. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Dimension of the role
Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Design and with time split between the NaughtOne production factory in Elland and the Head Office (which also has its own Development centre) the Upholstery Developer will work closely with the Engineering, Product and Production teams to introduce all new upholstered designs into production.
