As a Graduate Civil Engineer in the Power and Hydro Team, you will play a vital role in supporting the operations and development of our dams and hydro works. Established since 1929, ALVANCE British Aluminium, part of the GFG Alliance, owns and operates the last remaining aluminium production plant (smelter) in the UK and a connected hydropower electricity generation station located on the slopes of Ben Nevis, Britains highest mountain. A combination or renewable energy sources makes this site one of the greenest metal production plants in the country. Role and Responsibilities Project Support: Assist in the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects related to power and hydro infrastructure. Site Investigations: Carry out civil engineering inspections of Hydro scheme structures including dams, smelter and power station buildings and structural steelwork. Documentation: Prepare technical reports, project specifications, and construction drawings in compliance with industry standards and regulations. Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, mechanical, and environmental engineers, to ensure integrated and efficient project delivery. Quality Assurance: Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. Problem Solving: Identify and resolve technical issues that arise during project execution, providing innovative and cost-effective solutions. Sustainability: Support initiatives aimed at improving the environmental performance and sustainability of power and hydro systems within the smelter. Candidate Requirements Civil Engineering degree or related field Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with professionals from various disciplines. Meticulous and thorough approach to engineering tasks and documentation. Willingness to work in a fast-paced and changing environment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Desirable Experience : Internship or work experience in civil engineering is an advantage, preferably in the industrial or power sectors. Technical Skills : Proficiency in civil engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD.Pro). Familiarity with project management tools is a plus.
