The Senior Management Accountant is responsible for preparing and producing a range of reports, projections, and analyses. They will be the main point of reference for budget holders, generating intelligence and providing support for forecasting and the business planning process. The role includes providing specialist advice to budget holders and investigating complex queries to support service delivery.
Main Duties of the Job
The Senior Management Accountant will:
1. Communicate changes and trends to budget holders and manage communications with a wide range of senior professionals.
2. Provide ongoing training and support to budget holders and other key staff.
3. Develop and supervise junior management accounting staff.
4. Lead in creating new reports and support the Head of Finance with analytical and costing projects.
5. Prioritize reports to ensure trends or problems are fully investigated and understood each month.
6. Take an active interest in the development of their skills and assist reporting staff in their development.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Completion of a Consultancy Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) recognized accountancy qualification, or equivalent experience.
* Advanced Excel skills.
* NHS or other public sector organization experience.
Experience
* Experience in an accounting department, including a specialist financial management role.
* Conducting comparative studies and audit reviews.
* Preparing a business case.
* Evaluating efficiency, effectiveness, and economy.
* Managing several senior client relationships with conflicting priorities.
Knowledge
* Understanding of systems concepts and information technology interfaces with planning and monitoring processes.
* Good knowledge of accounting sub-systems (Payroll, Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger, and Procurement).
* Ability to apply concepts for budgeting, financial planning, costing, pricing, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
* Understanding of Standing Financial Instructions and adherence mechanisms.
* Strong sense of quality and customer focus.
* Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
* Willingness to contribute to department operations.
Skills
* Ability to listen to budget holders and interpret responses to provide relevant reports and advice.
* Good communication skills with both non-finance and finance staff.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with all staff levels.
* Ability to set and negotiate priorities and manage workload to meet deadlines.
* Experience supporting complex functions with high transaction volumes.
* Ability to focus on multiple issues during the monthly reporting cycle.

* Ability to provide or obtain professional advice across accounting disciplines.
* Able to carry out work with attention to detail.
