The Firm Risk Management division is at the core of the firm's activities, and its role is evolving and expanding in line with changing industry standards, regulatory requirements, and commercial pressures.
This role (Senior Quantitative Model Developer (AI/ML)) will reside within Firm Risk Management's Risk Analytics Department, specifically the Risk Artificial Intelligence Applications team. The role will be responsible for the design and development of Artificial Intelligence applications.
Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.

What will you be doing?
1. Design and develop AI applications that enhance the efficiency of the Firm's Risk Management processes, and help risk managers gain new insights.
2. Contribute hands-on to software development using Python and AI/ML models, with a focus on natural language processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT-4.
3. Collaborate and interact with risk managers, model reviewers, and other internal and external stakeholders.
4. Collaborate globally with team members, stakeholders within technology teams in Risk & Front Office and Quant-developer teams within Front Office Strats.
5. Contribute directly as a hands-on developer while mentoring junior team members.
What we're looking for:
1. Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Mathematical Finance, Physics, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent.
2. 5+ years of relevant work experience in AI/ML, software engineering, or related fields.
3. Strong knowledge of at least one mainstream programming language (proven track record of Python programming).
4. Understanding of financial concepts and products.
5. Interest in AI/ML concepts.
6. Familiarity with modern development best practices, such as Unit Testing and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment.
Skills that will help you in the role:
1. Strategic mindset, good business sense and judgment, creative problem-solving skills.
2. The ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders (specialist and non-technical stakeholders), both written and verbally.
3. An interest in working in a fast-paced environment, often balancing multiple high priority deliverables.
4. People management experience, including mentoring junior developers (preferred).
5. Familiarity with financial models (preferred).

This role is based in 20 Bank Street, London.
