We are looking to appoint a Health & Safety Coordinator, reporting to our Health, Safety and Facilities Manager, based in Runcorn, Cheshire. The site is our UK Head Office base and is home to our Aseptic Production Unit, Warehousing facility and our office based support functions.
We have over 1,000 employees across the UK & Ireland with a combination of field, office and shift based colleagues.
Job Purpose
The successful candidate will provide health and safety support and guidance across the business, building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and employees by demonstrating specialist understanding and knowledge. You will need to constructively challenge existing ways of working and support the delivery of health and safety strategies, legislative compliance and best practice.
Main Accountabilities
Support the Health, Safety and Facilities Manager to develop and deliver department strategies, initiatives and continuous improvement programmes.
Support the maintenance and improvement of integrated management systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards. ISO45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems
Provide support and guidance to management teams in creating and reviewing different types of risk assessments ,ensuring that the control measures put in place are suitable and sufficient to minimise risk.
Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to provide for effective and efficient close out of actions and recommendations to prevent recurrence accident investigations.
Assist in reviewing the development of health and safety policies, procedures and business systems to support ongoing compliance with corporate and legal requirements as well as carrying out and assisting in internal and external audits.
Support the delivery of health and safety-based training and assist in developing and delivering quarterly Safety Champions meetings.
Champion and promote ‘doing the right thing’ in respect of health and safety through ways of working and provide advice and guidance to managers and employees.
Assist co-ordination of the ‘Emergency Response Team’ (Fire Wardens and Officers, First Aiders, Safety Champions, Cytotoxic Spill Responders).
Experience
* Proven previous experience of working in a health and safety-based role, including carrying out internal and external audits.
* A good working knowledge of health and safety-based challenges faced by a diverse organisation (e.g. manufacturing, warehouse, field based, office-based employees) working across a range of different activities.
* Ability to communicate enthusiastically and effectively to engage with management and employees and deliver competent and clear advice and guidance. Experience working with and influencing key stakeholders is preferable, but not essential.
* Working knowledge of IT systems including standard MS Office products is essential.
* Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively.
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
* Likely to be a Graduate Member of IOSH (or equivalent)
